If 1:1700 people currently have Covid19 in the U.K. and the population is 67,886,011 what percentage of the population have Covid19? I can’t work it out , and with shielding ending soon I would like to feel reassured.

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50
They estimate 4000 new cases a day, not in total x

That makes sense, thanks @Jrobhatch29 and @DrivingDownThe101

Why is the Zoe estimate around 10 times higher than the ONS? ARe they measuring the same thing? Could one be "with Covid at this moment" and the other be "has Covid now or has had it"?

WhyNotMe40 · 23/06/2020 10:57

The Zoe reports people reporting symptoms. Some of which may well be hayfever or other things

Lostnameperson · 23/06/2020 11:21

Actually I don’t need to try and work it out, the Zoe app actually says that:

“136,501
people are currently predicted to have symptomatic COVID in the UK”

Surely they would be taking into account that many people reporting symptoms have other ailments.

Most people are not tested. Of those who are, many test negative because they didn't test in the first 2-5 days. Some just test negative because the test was poorly administered. Then 70% have no symptoms at all.

And in any case test centres are STILL running out of tests (eg last week in some places) and local appointments can still be difficult to get.

And those with a positive test only are counted as having the virus.
