Wedding / Covid

We were due to get married in June but at the start of lockdown we pushed it back to April 2021, which at the time seemed like enough time away.

We saw some friends yesterday who said that they don't think it will happen.

What do you think the odds are for weddings in spring / summer 2021?

I think you'll be fine

I honestly do not know and I don’t think anyone does. A longstanding traditional festival that happens in January that my partner is a part of has cancelled. This is due to the government providing no clarification on the plans moving forward for mass gatherings. Obviously hugely different circumstances as this is a massive city wide event but it’s indicative of mass gatherings in general I think.

We were also supposed to get married on the 6th June this year but we’ve postponed to June 2021 and I’m still unsure.

We're moving from September this year to may next year and I bloody hope we're allowed to go ahead!

Plus my partner works in an events related industry that had been destroyed by the virus so if events can't be held by when we'll be stuffed for money anyway.

It does rather depend on whether it all goes bad during the traditional northern hemisphere winter virus season

But even if it does, we've learned a lot about breaking transmission chains, so the re-emergence from restrictions might be easier each time.

I suspect by April there's a good change it will be OK (based on flu usually petering out in March).

And if you know you have vulnerable/exceptionally vulnerable people amongst your nearest and dearest, you might want to think about how to have plenty of room for people, and if you can seat them by bubbles of existing contacts.

I suspect a lot hangs on a vaccine.. if they do roll out the Oxford one at the back end of this year, then life can return much to normality.

Even so, if we don’t, life has to go on. By 2021 I suspect there’ll be little motivation to comply with social distancing. It’s already waining after 3 months! Unless this virus mutates to start killing the young & healthy..(which is hopefully pretty unlikely!)
