Aibu this really annoyed me...

So we’ve created a bubble with BIL as he lives alone, works from home and is following the rules. This morning he was coming over at 10ish. 10am the door rings my 4 year old goes to answer while I’m in the kitchen putting the kettle on. After 5 min I can still hear my son talking but they haven’t come into the kitchen so I go to see what’s happening. My son is stood in the porch with an amazon delivery man stood right in our door step having a chat with my son and passing him the parcels... they must be about 0.5m apart and handing the parcels straight to my son! When I see this I wash my sons hands but didn’t say anything to the driver but it’s really annoyed me. These drivers surely know the rules, we also have a sign up asking them to leave the parcels in the porch or on the door step. My OH has diabetes which makes him more at risk I guess. My sister thinks I’m being unnessasily anxious about that but it did really upset me. What do you think?

I let my son answer the door as I assumed it was my BIL as was the exact time he said he would come!

Can’t say I’d be over bothered to be honest, they think you need to be with someone for a min fifteen mins. The odds of the Amazon bloke having it is very limited.

However I’d not let a four year old answer the door.

Perhaps the delivery driver was thrown by a 4 year old answering the door and perhaps your son initiated a conversation or asked to take the parcels??
Yes it’s not ideal but then I don’t think a 4 year old should be answering the door without you hovering to check who it is anyway.... to be honest I would feel responsible for that happening myself rather than blaming the delivery driver.

Presumably you were expecting an order so you knew there was a chance it was the delivery? I wouldn't let my 5 year answer the door unless I was close enough to see or hear exactly what is going on?

You should have said something to the driver. I have noticed some delivery drivers are really strict - mask on, asking me to close the door so they can finish putting the bags out, then other drivers standing right there handing me the eggs...

YANBU. The delivery driver should have asked your son to fetch a grown up.

Yes I can totally imagine my son happily chatting to the driver, surprised he didn’t invite him in to play! However, I also agree in future I won’t let him answer the door, I genuinely thought it was my BIL, usually if I go upstairs I even put the chain on the front door so my son can’t wonder out.

I do think the driver should not engage with kids at this time and pass them the parcels!!

I didn’t say anything to the driver as It caught me off guard! I was considering calling and complaining but I would hate someone to loose their job for an honest mistake!

I’ve also learnt if I’m feeling a bit anxious about something not to write it on here, as people are quick to attack.

Unfortunately, some people have never accepted or understood the need to social distance or to disinfect or quarantine shopping and deliveries. Some people did, but now mistakenly think it's all over, thanks largely to our government's mishandling of the pandemic. In future though I do think the onus is on you not to let a young child answer the door unsupervised.

Yes we have and still will put amazon deliveries in garage for a week before we open them! And I wash our shopping!!!!
