Discussion around dropping it to one metre, that would make it more viable

Blue1316 · 20/06/2020 18:58

Sorry posted too soon. I just find it difficult to understand how you can stay 2m , even 1m away from everyone, especially people you are eating / drinking with. Also if we still can’t mix households it leaves parents without babysitters so unless you fancy taking the kids with you many people still won’t be going to pubs.

Yes I don’t get it either. Who is going to want to go to a pub or restaurant when you can’t even go into families houses yet? Or will it be just households allowed on a table?

sackcummings · 20/06/2020 19:29

I feel sorry for the pubs etc but are people really going to want to pay to sit at a table in a half empty pub and order drinks with a phone app whilst wearing masks?

Bol87 · 20/06/2020 19:53

We’ll speak for yourself. I enjoy a meal out. And I tend to go for meals out with my household. Sometimes just my OH if we have a babysitter but more often with our daughter. I enjoy an early bird 😄 We tended to eat out once a week before all this. And often went for lunch in local cafes too.. honestly a big part of my enjoyment of life is going out for food!

HilaryBriss · 20/06/2020 19:55

I can't bloody wait, I will be going with my DP who lives with me. And surely wearing masks will not be possible, if you have to keep removing it to sip your drink or eat then there is no point wearing one in the first place.

daisymay133 · 20/06/2020 19:57

The reality is very few people are doing the social distancing thing anymore

Genuinely I don’t know anyone who’s doing it

CKBJ · 20/06/2020 20:24

Well sorry not a “supporting your community” attitude but we have saved so much money not eating out/takeaways/coffees etc we certainly won’t be rushing back to our “old” life style. We’ve enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen and appreciating the outdoors.

MoreW1ne · 20/06/2020 20:26

Pub on corner of my road. I'll be queuing to get in the minute they announce they're open Smile.
Good to support local business as well.

Bol87 · 20/06/2020 20:33

That’s great @CKBJ , you carry on! I’m not sure why the defensive post, no-one has commented about not supporting your community Confused Ive saved so much money in commuting & nursery fee’s, I’m rich. Bring on the food 😂

Blue1316 · 20/06/2020 20:36

I’ve just seen lots of people on social media now arranging to go to pubs in groups from other households and get the feeling many people see 4th July as an end to social distancing from friends and family. Perhaps that may be the case as I don't think they can now tell you not to go in your families house or use their cups/ cutlery at BBQs but yes you can now sit inside a pub with complete strangers and use glasses/ cups / cutlery from there.

The viability of pubs and restaurants will be linked to a general further easing of lockdown. So things like a reduction in social distancing to 1m, being allowed to stay overnight at other people's houses and gather in larger groups.

Paddingtonthebear · 21/06/2020 08:24

I wonder if they will allow people to visit friends/family in their homes and stay over night without distancing. If they allow us to do that and to visit people in their homes without any distancing, will there be much point in having distancing rules everywhere else?

Or will they announce more “bubbles” where you can visit one household in their home but you can only pick one household and they have to pick you too

Me
RightIsRight · 21/06/2020 08:29

They should scrap social distancing. The protests are making a mockery of it. By law, they should all be arrested.

"Who is going to want to go to a pub or restaurant when you can’t even go into families houses yet?"

Me!
My family lives far away, but there are cafes close by. It would be great just to look at a different wall. I've been looking at the same four walls for 3 months!

Can't drink with a mask on, but for the rest of it HELL YES!
onedayinthefuture · 21/06/2020 11:13

Many people go to to restaurants to meet up with friends, if only households are allowed to visit, then they may as well not open. I should imagine, we'll do what Spain are doing and allow groups of 10 to meet up.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/06/2020 11:56

Some people go to cafes on their own oneday - I do.
Also, we're already allowed to meet with one other household if keeping a distance so if it goes from 2m to 1.5m you can share a table with a friend.

HoldMyLobster · 21/06/2020 12:30

We’ve been out to eat a few times since lockdown eased here. It’s nicer now as the restaurants are less noisy, the food comes out faster and it feels like a treat after months of eating at home.

Musicforsmorks · 21/06/2020 12:30

Has anyone said ‘you crack on’ yet?

Musicforsmorks · 21/06/2020 12:34

Oh and I’d love to see, logistically, how you’d arrest thousands of protesters all,at once with an underfunded police force and small cramps police cells..

Mmm....

Gosh these fuckers who fight for positive change really do make this cute, white little country so dirty, smelly and messy don’t they? Im so terribly cross.

pigsDOfly · 21/06/2020 12:41

The fact is some pubs and restaurants won't open.

There was a well known restaurateur interviewed on television the other night who said they could just about break even with one metre distancing but at two metres they couldn't run a viable business.

I know someone who owns a pub and they are not planning to open if the two metre rule is in place because it's just pointless, again at one metre they're still going to be struggling.

BarefootHippieChick · 21/06/2020 12:42

If it works the same way as Europe, then masks have to be worn walking around the restaurant or going to the bar, but can be taken off at your table or if you're sitting outside.

ineedaholidaynow · 21/06/2020 12:46

I was wondering how they would do the not mixing households. Obviously pubs aren't going to know whether you are coming in with family or friends.

I wonder if they will do the same as some countries are doing and you have to give them your name and addresses so test and trace can work
