Outbreaks being kept secret.

Right now we are at a precarious stage of the pandemic.

We must return to some sense or normality and to do this we must have track and trace up and running and being effective.

People are concerned we are opening too fast and T and T isn't effective.

From what I've seen in MSM the handling of this local epidemic was effective. Immediate mobile testing, track and trace, closure of site for cleaning.

Surely we need to see that we can be open and handle potential outbreaks.

Right now the country needs confidence and to feel they are getting the truth.

So surely keeping outbreaks a secret is counter productive?

Who is keeping outbreaks secret or suggesting we should?

Matt Hancocok mentioned 2 outbreaks yesterday - Kirklees and somewhere else that I can't remember now - Leicester somewhere I think

Why on earth would they keep outbreaks secret?! It's the exact opposite.
They bring in mobile testing centres and test the locals.

What is your agenda to start spreading this rubbish??

What outbreak was "kept a secret" and on what basis do you think it was secret:

1. No attempt to trace and inform exposed people?
2. Positive test results not included in government stats?
3. You didn't get a personal phonecall to say someone got sick 10 miles from your home?

it think the OP is just someone who is here to spread disinformation with some agenda that I simply cannot fathom.

Yes Matt Hancock mentioned the outbreak Thursday.

The first case was reported 8th June. He had been called in to chair an emergency meeting day previously.

Yet the first some leaders in the county and residents heard about it was the briefing.

They feel it was kept quiet and people were going about their failing lives not knowing an outbreak had occurred locally. There is real concern about this.

If it’s in a newspaper it wouldn’t seem to be being kept a secret.

Just whether there needs to be more response to local residents. I watched the Salisbury poisonings and felt the PH lady there was really on the ball. And they were extremely open about the state of play.

There's an outbreak currently at a chicken processing plant in North Wales. 51 people infected. I was surprised Hancock didn't mention it, but I wonder if the other outbreaks he did name were worse.

I don't think they're being kept secret per se, but track and tracing should be at work in full force so I'd be concerned if people in those areas hadn't been contacted.

It wasn't mentioned for 10 days. The point local residents have is people found out about it in briefing rather than at a local level when what was happening was known about.

sorry itsgettingwierd if I have unfairly labelled you with an agenda. There's a lot of bad faith actors on MN and they annoy me - trying to scare others with their fake news - no idea why.

As to the outbreak it was on the Thurs briefing and in newspapers. That is not being kept secret.
I know about them and I live nowhere near and not particualy looking for news of outbreaks.
There really is no conspiracy here.

yes agreed. and I am sure that systems etc will be getting better with each new outbreak (which will happen) the local PH person for each area will be on the outlook now and co-ordination between GOV and local PH will I am sure improve.

Everyone is supposed to continue acting as though they and everyone they meet are potentially asymptomatic. It's a concept called social distancing. What are these "local leaders" going to DO with the information? If people want updated latest figures then they can search for them and drill down on their local area every day. The idea that everyone within a radius should be told about a few dozen cases seems crazy, only exposed people need to be told and then summary at the government briefings.

difference with Salisbury is that they could hold open town hall meetings about the poisonings to inform local - that will obviously not be possible with the virus so will need to find other means of telling locals without scaring the living daylights out of everyone.

If the media would accurately report and keep in perspective then publicity surrounding local outbreaks would make sense but they don't - the Leicester "outbreak" is a number of cases connected to one school, the problem is that I know from a friend who lives a few doors from the school that the kids have been in and out of houses, bbq's with neighbours, parties family gatherings etc plus it's an area with some deprivation, multi generational living ... The press don't mention this so it implies the outbreak is generalised rather than warning those in the specific area. There's also a rise in another neighbourhood with high deprivation, multi generational etc and they have sent in a mobile testing unit and are inviting people to be tested.

The problem is that I've heard people saying they won't get tested, won't isolate, none of governments business and best one, it's all a trick. Parties were in full swing last night, must have been 30 cars at my neighbours!

There has been a lot of upset online in the local press that we hadn’t been told officially. But from what we now know, it was handled very quickly, track & trace done efficiently & everyone is now isolating. A mobile test centre has been set up as well.

Im not sure what people should do differently from an outbreak in a factory? Hide indoors? The virus is circulating, if you go out, there’s a chance you can catch it at any time! I certainly won’t be living my life any differently. Fingers crossed everyone who should be isolating is doing so!

Leicester outbreak probably a consequence of Eid gatherings 3-4 weeks ago. Started a thread on this.

Agree with MRex. If everyone was doing what was advised re social distancing there is nothing more that local leaders could do with the info. Everyone potecting themselves and families by doing what they have been told. Then, if Symptoms present, request test, isolate if positive

I magine they will use what worked/ didn;t work in Kirklees when outbreaks happen in different areas. Although all areas are different /populations different and out break will be different I am now sure if say there was an outbreak in a care home that the wider community need to know if it is clear who has been / is in the home and all those contacts traced That will just cause unneccessary panic.

But not a conspiracy of silence - just PH working out as quickly as poss what to do!

People like you are Never confident you are getting the truth, OP. It isn't possible.

If the 1st case was on the 8th it would probably have taken a few days for it to become apparent that there was a cluster so possibly only a delay of a couple of days delay in official notification. The meeting was probably called once they were sure. I'm no fan of this government but can't see a basis for a conspiracy here.

Our outbreak was in a meat packing factory.. a common theme it seems!
