Being a parent with coronavirus

Just wondering how parents who have had coronavirus coped with trying to recover with small children and how badly everyone was affected? I have a 5 week old with reflux and a 2 year old, it's hard enough at home with no help now and worried how we will cope if/when we get it

I’ve not had it but having just got through 9 months of Hyperemesis in pregnancy with a toddler, you’ll just simply battle through! I was so sick, I honestly thought I was dying at times. I could barely get out of bed for 3 months without vomiting yet I carried on as best I could. My toddler watched a lot of TV & ate cold food. My OH was a hero but was at work full time! So I just had to cope.

And, just to rub salt into the wound after a hellish pregnancy, straight after my now 12 week was born, my OH & I caught the mother of all colds from our toddler (I assume it was a cold as we were all super snotty but could have been corona). We had temperatures, coughs (productive), headaches, body aches and couldn’t breathe for snot. We both felt absolutely awful compounded with a poorly toddler & brand newborn. It was HARD. But you carry on. That’s life as a parent, you don’t get a sick day!

Coronavirus is no different to any other illness in that sense. So long as you are young & no underlying conditions, chances are you’ll get a mild strain and get on with it!
I do have in the back of my mind ‘what if’ we both got really ill & needed the hospital but it’s very unlikely so I can’t spend all my time worrying!

Just don’t worry , an asteroid might fall on your street tomorrow ! Worry about what you can control, not some bogeyman

I was very very worried about this a few months ago. Not so much now as the likelihood is we won't catch it. Even so I have food in the freezer, lots of snacks and UHT milk on case we get ill.

I was very poorly with an ear and sinus infection before lockdown. You just muddle through.

DH, DS (5m) and I all had it simultaneously.

Wasn’t too bad, I wasn’t too unwell, just night sweats and feeling a bit crappy at night for a few days plus total loss of sense of smell and taste.

DH was much worse for longer but didn’t need treatment.

DS just had a cough and temperature but it meant he didn’t sleep much.

It was a rough time and looking back I’m amazed we all coped, but we had no choice and thankfully were able to just carry on and drag ourselves through the days.

No point worrying about it until it happens. We were certain we’d be fucked if we all got it at once but we did and we’re all fine now!
