JK Rowling - lots of free content, a book, an app, free audiobooks

lightningstrikes · 11/06/2020 11:31

Our local primary school. Excellent remote education from the start, clear and honest communication throughout. Genuinely feel they have all the children's best interests at heart and have gone above and beyond.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 11/06/2020 11:31

Grayson Perry's Lockdown Art Club
Single parents working from home

SnugglySnerd · 11/06/2020 11:32

Maddie Moate and Greg Foot for their daily YouTube science programme for children. It has been amazing!

NHS workers
Supermarket staff and their delivery drivers
Volunteers who I’ve not had to use but it’s a relief knowing if we need to isolate someone will be able to pick up our C&C.
My DCs teachers for sending out lots of gold stars and motivating them to keep up with their schoolwork.
Also my DD’s Reception teacher who films herself reading the “home time” story each afternoon for DD to watch.

BalloonSlayer · 11/06/2020 11:34

Our postman. Always a cheery comment and a smile and a wave.

He is probably the only person some people see and a real ray of sunshine.

Weepinggreenwillow · 11/06/2020 11:34

The head of achievement support at my dd's school who has gone above and beyond for my dd with th an EHCP
The virtual running group I belong to who have set up virtual challenges to keep us all motivated

Yes we've really enjoyed these too.

Also Steve Backshall & Olaf Falafels YouTube sessions too.

A local pub/restaurant who have collected food that would otherwise be thrown away, used their kitchens to cook it and delivered it twice per week to the elderly, needy and those with MH issues.

NHS staff involved in looking after Covid patients.
All those involved in the food supply chain.
Teachers looking after key workers' children.
All those who have undertaken voluntary work to help others in need.
Amazon and Royal Mail.
Refuse Collectors.
The Govt who have provided unprecedented levels of financial support to so many.

TumbledGlass · 11/06/2020 12:02

Utility workers, working round the clock to keep us all supplied with water, gas, and electricity.
Power station staff were willing to live on site, for as long as necessary, to keep the electricity flowing. It's something that everyone in the country relies on, yet often taken for granted.

greenstream · 11/06/2020 12:40

@ss Grin the wee iceland guy Grin - What @tumble said about utility workers, power stations keeping the electricity flowing, yes great point - All the NHS domestic staff and the bus drivers and public transport - The refuse collectors from veolia and others who've come day in day out to clean my street and take the binbags - Farmers in britain !!! and all the pickers and growers, amazing - Wow, volunteers who delivered medication, that's so great. did not know that happened, brilliant

My employers’ IT department. I take back everything I’ve ever said about them.

Broadband providers in general - what would we do without them?

The BBC.

blackpeonies · 11/06/2020 12:51

hahah @aint "take back everything I've said" yes so true

StrawberryJam200 · 11/06/2020 12:52

Wow didn't know that about power station staff!

All the vicars who, sometimes from a standing start, have got to grips with technology and been able to stream services not only for their existing congregations but, according to stats, up to 25% of the nation.

HairyFloppins · 11/06/2020 12:59

All supermarket workers including my dd.
The lovely delivery drivers that bring my weekly shop.
My freight train driver DH and his colleagues for keeping the Tesco trains going.
NHS covid staff & care home workers.
Virgin wines for bringing me wine.

Micah · 11/06/2020 13:01

The police. Who have been stuck between a rock and a hard place either enforcing a Nazi regime or too lazy to enforce lockdown enough.

Who are never mentioned on threads like this, who are never mentioned as frontline staff, who are being threatened, coughed on and spat at.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 11/06/2020 13:05

Cressida Cowell for reading HTTYD on YouTube every day and being just so adorably excited by it each time! And doing creative writing/arty competitions on there too.

Our local Crossfit Gym, which has done a kids zoom session EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL DAY.

My local Majestic store, who keep turning up with wine about 10 minutes after i've ordered it despite the nationwide website saying I might have to wait weeks Grin

Our veg box scheme, who got so busy they temporarily had to close to new customers but have delivered consistently amazing quality produce every week despite the crazy weather.

Art Enthusiasts London (look them up on Facebook) who do amazing art webinars for kids aged 6-9 and 10-13 (and adults) for less than a fiver.

blackpeonies · 11/06/2020 13:09

@floppins - tesco trains ?!? wow, who knew. That’s cool

Suki2 · 11/06/2020 13:20

Tesco who charge £2 only for priority shopping slots; they could charge much more and people would still be fighting over them.

Morrisons who I think were the first to produce food boxes with one day delivery, so that those who couldn't get supermarket delivery slots were covered for food.
