  • All NHS frontline, risking their own lives
  • Jamie Oliver (keep cooking)
  • Chris Packham (springwatch live)
  • All the 3d home or lab printers (who made shields)
  • mumsnet (who kept us chatting)
  • world wide web (needed for mumsnet & 1 million other things!)
  • all the volunteers (who set up local village & community supports)
  • Saferstreets and Medecin sans frontier (homes for homeless)
  • M&S (food boxes)

OP posts:
ohthegoats · 12/06/2020 13:47

BBC Bitesize - the BBC in general with iplayer box sets
All of my podcast people who kept going
Staff at all supermarkets I've used - amazingly cheerful and helpful
NHS keeping partner's treatment going throughout
Angie up the road who keeps leaving little presents for my only child

ohthegoats · 12/06/2020 13:48

Companies who turned their booze facilities into hand sanitiser facilities

TheDogsMother · 12/06/2020 13:55

Previous posters have covered many of mine but I'd like to add local butchers, farm shops, wine merchants and delis who have really stepped up to the plate. Local pubs making lovely takeaway food. The town council who have created a volunteer hub to help many during Covid and they will be carrying this initiative on into the future.

One of my favourites has been the live streaming of animal feeding time at Chester zoo.

blackpeonies · 12/06/2020 14:21

Yes ! @goats about the companies that changed so quick to making sanitiser locally from their base products, like Louis Vuitton and loads of perfume companies !! also yes @goats about Chris Packham's monologues to open Springwatch - in fact the whole Daffodil Springwatch Daffodil thing, such high quality - so appropriate and it gave me back hope in this nation and our beautiful country and wildlife, I found it quite emotional seeing all the life being born at a time when do many are losing their lives, seeing nature flourish, and also the parts about mindfulness and the sketch about brain chemistry - just all so right on for the moment

happypotamus · 12/06/2020 15:03

The bus drivers who have carried on working at personal risk so I could get to work and home again. At the start of lockdown my work place (a hospital) asked us for contingency in case public transport ceased, and for me that would have probably meant leaving DH and DC and moving into a hotel near work for an unknown length of time. They don't even charge NHS staff for the bus anymore here at the moment (I entirely agree that isn't fair on other frontline keyworkers who have to pay because they don't work for the NHS and I wish it could be extended to include others).

blackpeonies · 12/06/2020 15:19

@happypotamuss loving the name !!!

TumbledGlass · 12/06/2020 17:11

Undertakers. I heard they've been having an horrendous time, having to treat every single body as being potentially contagious, so donning full PPE going into houses etc. Then trying to explain the new funeral rules to grieving families.
crematorium staff too, and clergy, for similar reasons.

itsgettingweird · 12/06/2020 17:19

Authors for putting readings of their books online.

GPS for working hard to change their whole system quickly, getting prescriptions sent remotely and keeping on seeing patients.

ONS - for providing very clear data and explanations (although I get this is their role!)

Shielders - for having to put up with watching everyone else begin to re start their lives from behind a window.

CoronaIsComing · 12/06/2020 17:24

The Police for having to deal with the rioting.

Divoc2020 · 12/06/2020 17:29

All The Archers actors who recorded their monologues as best they could, even though they knew they would probably sound a bit shit (sorry).

IpanemaGallina · 12/06/2020 17:40

All NHS staff but particularly those who helped me when I was very poorly with this virus.
The Mumsnet Lungs are Burning threads back in March/April
My dc’s teachers for providing work and support throughout.
Volunteers who dropped off medicine and food when I was ill.
Waitrose delivery drivers.
Asda supermarket workers.
BBC bitesize.
Chris Packham and the presenter showing the beavers in Cornwall, so calming.
Gardeners World Daffodil

CornishYarg · 12/06/2020 21:04

Key workers, including those in less visible but equally vital roles e.g. utilities, farmers, food transportation etc etc

Our local greengrocer and Milk&More; so glad we were customers already as it was very reassuring to know we could get food delivered when so many shelves were bare in March.

Local restaurants for setting up a takeaway service so quickly; they've been one of the few treats to look forward to.

Joe Wicks, despite me moaning at him during the workouts!

The BBC for Bitesize and iPlayer

Tourist attractions like zoos and museums that have hosted some great web events and interactive tours for free, despite being shut. Just hope the businesses survive this so we can visit in person sometime

My lovely friend who has invited DS and I in several socially distanced walks and bike rides with her kids since they've been allowed. DS is an only child so having this interaction with other children has been fantastic.

DS's Cub leaders for keeping in touch with them regularly and coming up with lots of ideas for activities

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/06/2020 21:15

I agree with everything that’s been said already but I want to add one more.

Kids. I don’t know about yours, but our 2 ds (14 and 12) have been absolutely amazing from then start and they still are.

If you’d have told any of us at the start how long these tight restrictions would go on for (we’re in Wales so have had very little in the way of changes) I’d never have believed you and would really have worried about how the ds would have coped. They have been and continue to be brilliant and they make me proud every day.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 12/06/2020 21:21

Paramedics everywhere. I am always in awe of paramedics.

My team at work (hospital) they've been amazing.

Supermarket staff everywhere.

Teachers: my boys have had great remote learning.

nex18 · 12/06/2020 21:23

Jay’s Virtual Pub Quiz, our family highlight of the week.
The sun for putting in a welcome appearance (come back, we miss you).
My dog for keeping us all company.

Piggywaspushed · 12/06/2020 21:28

DS2 for not complaining once and doing schoolwork even though he is year 11 and really doesn't need to. Bless him.

And thank you to those thanking teachers. It really helps.

BusStopHottie · 12/06/2020 21:31

My Postman and myhermes.

CornishYarg · 12/06/2020 21:32

@Muchtoomuchtodo Good point, I also have huge admiration for DS. He's coped so well with having his world turned upside down. If there's a silver lining to this shitshow, I hope it's that he's developed an inner strength and resilience that he'll be able to draw on many times in future.

megletthesecond · 12/06/2020 21:36

-My milkman for not letting me down once.
-Radio 1. Being honest about the MH toll it's taking on people but for pushing through and keeping me dancing.
-Grayson Perry and his art club
-CBBC
-Have I got news for you. I know not everyone liked the format but I think it worked.

Babyroobs · 12/06/2020 21:52

Our local community group have been nothing short of amazing. Co-ordinating neighbourhood volunteers to do shopping for the elderly and shielding, delivering prescriptions, making scrubs for local hospitals, sewing masks, scrub bags etc, ordering big deliveries of food when it was in short supply in the supermarkets - flour, yeast, eggs etc.

Useruseruserusee · 12/06/2020 21:55

The vicar at our church. We only started going as DS goes to the church school but he sends the most wonderful reassuring emails every evening. At Easter they delivered eggs wrapped and labelled with the DC names on and the church wardens are in touch with everyone.

The click and collect man at Sainsbury’s who always waves and smiles at DC in the back of the car when I get the shopping.

drspouse · 12/06/2020 22:09

Our cleaner who we've kept on paying and who's been running loads of errands.
My DS specialist school especially his class teacher and her lovely videos (though one of the teachers has had a tendency to interpret some regulations in a rather idiosyncratic way).
The butcher and the milkman who have saved our bacon (so to speak)
Shipton Mill (and the sourdough group on FB)
HIGNFY

blackpeonies · 12/06/2020 22:53
  • hospitality companies who opened their doors to house nhs staff and those like airbnb who had clear and fair covid guidelines
  • the national sports associations who delivered amazing online programmes like training, q&a with stars, technical talks
  • music groups and orchestras or kids on their instruments who did live concerts beamed into care homes
starrynight19 · 12/06/2020 23:21

The nhs staff who have bravely fought this head on at the frontline and all the others who have kept the nhs ticking over
The amazing care workers who have even moved in to protect their residents
The police who have had an even more difficult time with recent events
The transport workers
The postal service
The delivery drivers
The milkman
The supermarket workers
The pharmacists
The bin men
Those who have streamed online to keep spirits up doing quizzes / online workouts
All community groups who have volunteered to feed / help the vulnerable in our community
The local priests who have delivered online services
The pubs / restaurants who have delivered take away services
The undertakers / crem staff who are working overtime sadly right now
And a special shout out to all the teachers out there who have faced so much criticism. At the end of another week in school with our bubble I am proud to know such amazing people. We have delivered food / vouchers / work packs both online and in person for those who can’t access it. We have reached out to the most vulnerable and made a difference.
Am sure I have missed some but well done to everyone , the home workers who are just keeping it together.
