What would you actually like the government to do on schools.

The demands on this site with regards to schooling are simply incompatible. Schools physically do not have the room or staff to reopen to their normal numbers of pupils with any form of social distancing in place, so it clearly isn't possible to get all kids back to school full time with social distancing in place.
What exactly would you like the government to be doing on schools that is actually feasible?

Realise that social distancing young children is just not necessary and offer ppe to the adult staff. Kids won't be scared and they aren't big transmitters between themselves. I've no idea why the government has over complicated it so much.

Vulnerable to isolate with extra temps or trainees brought in under supervision

The government plan would have been fine without the unions taking it too far and I say that as a teacher

I agree with you. I think the government haven’t done this as they do not want to provide the PPE.

I wondered about offices could we do some temporary conversation? Given so many empty whole people work from home?

We def need a recruitment drive for teachers similar to the nhs! So many left in recent years can we get some back (not even talking retired but three years had enough teachers). Agree that we will drop some of the workload problems - seriously a teacher working half what they normally do would be better at teaching my child than me😂!).

Basically I want a massive grow the sector covert buildings, bring in staff, the education catastrophe is big now! Come on it took four years for the quickest vaccine we cannot wait that long to educate our children!

For primary schools to part time to all pupils now, rather than just random year groups. Even if it’s just 2 days a week, they could do say surnames A-M on Monday & Tuesday, deep clean Weds, and surnames N-Z on Thursday and Friday (or wherever the 50% split of surnames lies).

Then in September, pretty much back to normal.

Personally, I prefer the Welsh approach. All children back to school on a part-time rota. Even one day a week at school would make a huge difference to many children's mental health and wellbeing. Having three primary year groups back for almost a full half term with no school time for the rest makes no sense to me.

Give some proper thought to children in years 10 and 12 facing public exams next year. Make them their priority rather then worrying about getting reception and year 1 into school when in a large number of countries these children wouldn’t even be starting school for a number of years.

Year 12 have less then a year of school left and risk becoming a list generation if they aren’t given priority.

Acknowledge, after scaring everyone to death to get them to comply, that transmission rates are far far far lower than they were back in March when schools were open and functioning normally.

Oh and I am fine with Ppe and happy for nothing children to wear masks if it would help too! Basically whatever the profession wants it can have it if it will educate my children!

I believe that the original SAGE advice was a rota, split the school in half and have each half in on a weekly rota. Not perfect but better than nothing and in terms of coronavirus it makes the most sense.

Normal school, no social distancing. PPE for staff if they want it. Stay home if have a cough or fever.

Scrap social distancing for primary and nursery age children. Get all kids back into schools. Social distancing for all parents though at pickup times.

To insist schools open up to all pupils on staggered days/ rota system. So every child gets to go into school before the holidays, 1 day a week for every child would be so good for their mental health and give parents a breather.

school to open without social distance measures in September- covid isn’t going anywhere and we were in lockdown to flatten the curve not to hold out for a vaccine.

Use of rotas until the track trace thing works properly - so combining home and school learning. Its then easy to grow the amount of time in school and the quality of the home learning can improve as it can relate to a lesson they had.
And use of regional/localised lock downs if necessary.

There haven’t been any new infections in my region for 2 weeks... Yet my Y7 and Y3 can’t go to school...

Open them now, without distancing.

Open primary schools to all years all day based on the documented low risk to that age group. No social distancing for children within the classroom but avoid contact between different classes (eating lunch in classrooms and staggered breaks). Parents wear masks when collecting plus strategy for each school based on their building to stop parents mixing at pick up.

I think part-time for all would be better than nothing for some.

Secondary schools staying shut is an absolute failure. There must be something more that can be done. It’s an absolute piss take that the pubs will open before second at pupils get a proper education.

I think a ton of funding. Outside handwash basins and outside structures where feesable.

Much more staff per school so they can staff smaller classes (my year 6 is loving all the benefits of being in a smaller class aside from corona, they can function as a group rather than have to split into groups for eveything.)

I havent loked at the scottish par time schooling scheme propelry but if we're to do that to announce it soon so parents can plan and see what that will look like i practice. Id be happy with a couple of days in school for my yr 3 and then set project or follow up work for the following week to share. Especially if smaller groups they then have time for show and tell with their work which they just dont for 30 (30 kids, 5 mins each, already 2.5 hours without unteruptions!!)

Id like government to talk with headteachers and see what they think is bwst for the children and work in conjunction with these experts in education rather than off the cuff political promises/statements.

I would like all schools back with no social distancing requirements. Windows open where possible. No assemblies. No big concerts. No getting the parents in for stuff. Perhaps a staggered start and end to the day to prevent parents congregating in the playground. A national home learning program provided for children who can't come in. No fines for the moment for non attendance.

And if they insist on having smaller classes, then a community wide approach which utilises other underused buildings like village halls and churches rather than simply wailing "It's impossible!"

The only way schools can reopen fully or even a half in/half off during the week for all classes is for shielding/vulnerable staff to be told to return to work immediately.

Im notnreally sure those asking to scrap social distancing have thought this through. When it is safe for the whole country we can do this. In the meantime we still need to stop the spread.

(People do know we have one of the highest death rates and other countries witg lower death rates havent fully opened schools righy?)
