In close contact with confirmed case....

I was in hospital last week with a non covid related matter, and was in a 4 bedded room for 3 days. I got home Saturday. Today I got a call from contact tracing, informing me that I was in close contact with a confirmed case and must self isolate for 14 days. I will be tested soon and then 7 days later. I suspect it was a woman in hospital room with me as she developed breathing problems on Friday ( post Bowel surgery). Does anyone know what are chances of catching virus from confirmed case? I live in west of Ireland where the numbers affected with virus were very low.

I don't think anyone will know the answer. Some have not contracted Covid from a partner who they share a bed with while others have.

Sorry to hear this and I hope you're ok. I don't think there's any way of knowing. Some people have seemingly caught it from touching the same tin of beans while others have family in the same house who haven't caught it.

It’s just a case of wait-and-see I’m afraid, my mum had it and my sister and niece who live with her didn’t catch it

Thank you for your replies. Yes, I suppose I will have to wait it out. I have underlying lung problems so I'm quite concerned about it. I also have 4 teenagers who were just planning their first visits post lockdown and are not impressed of 14 more days of home based activities!

I don't think your family has to quarantine with you unless you are positive.

Bless you. Try not to worry. Easier said than done I know! Do you know when you are being tested?

val4 · 08/06/2020 23:13

Don't know yet when I have test. The contact tracing person said I would hear within couple days. I am encouraging my kids not to enter other houses until I get test results, just to be on safe side. They agree as feel 10 more days isn't too bad. Obviously if I'm negative there will be no limitations( within Gov guidelines).
