When do we think things will get back to normal in schools

Hi
When do we think after school clubs/nurseries/holiday clubs will get back to normal.... wondering if I'll need to hire help from 3pm on a couple of days when I do a job I can't do from home (retail)

I work in FE. We've been told that our college is preparing for blended learning from September until who knows whe

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 08/06/2020 18:09

I so so hope we are back to normal by September as my DS starts reception then but I am not holding my breath :(

WhatILoved · 08/06/2020 18:11

Good question. I've worked in the retail for ages and it's a bit more than just retail I don't want to put myself too much but I work a bit with events too. I don't do that full time because it's a lot of time away from the family when you include the commute. I've been childminding for 2 years. I love the Early Years and we have so much fun, I take it very seriously and am also doing a masters in childhood and youth with the OU. The only reason I don't do it full time is due to not being completely ok with being fully self employed - I guess when you've been employed for a long time you can feel like that.

And no I doubt they'd make me redundant over a new start. I'd cost them too much

Can I ask,

Those whose schools have planned part time schooling, what happens if the virus is practically burnt out by then? 55 deaths today and none of London. I think places are jumping the gun saying what they are planning already.

bonsaidragon · 08/06/2020 18:22

55 deaths today and none of London.
We are over 200 miles from London so that makes no difference to us.

bonsaidragon · 08/06/2020 18:24

Thanks for all these replies. What are people who can't work from home doing for childcare?

My children stay at home and I go to work, i can't do anything else.

lljkk · 08/06/2020 18:24

I predict September 2021

Mummypig2020 · 08/06/2020 18:26

2021?! 😂😂😂😂

LockdownLou · 08/06/2020 18:30

@mummypig2020

It’s just that, a plan. It doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen (as stated in the email I received off the principle) it is wise to prepare for socially distanced, part time school, but at the same time, it might not happen.

AmelieTaylor · 08/06/2020 18:33

@Nimello

September 2021 is cloud cuckoo land for anyone who is paying school fees, not to mention anyone who will have to go back to work and so can't be home-schooling their children. Even if the government doesn't realise this, the schools do. My remaining DC at school is going back properly/full time in September, barring meteorites, earthquakes etc. That's what the school has said, anyway.
I don't think you should speak on behalf of others.

Our FeePaying School has been utterly fantastic. Better communication than before CV. 'Live' teaching in Teams - full timetable. Extra activities, great pastoral care, 15% discount (25% for boarders)

They are currently planning to be open in Sept (actually a week earlier than usual) but with it being largely boarding and a lot of international students I don't know if they will be or not? If they're not I'll be happy with their teaching/pastoral care being as it's been this term.

@bonsaidragon - what age are your children?

IncrediblySadToo · 08/06/2020 18:44

@WhatILoved. Well, it seems like you had a good balance between the two before. Bastard Virus!! If you'd like to go back to that job, then I'd just wait and see what happens. I imagine a lot of after school care will adapt to be held largely outside, at least for the first half of the term. & I expect more 'Around school' CM's will pop up

Then I'd come the holidays or Sept you can't arrange care & work hours satisfactorily, it'll be easy enough to CM full time. No lack of kids certainly!

jt2345 · 08/06/2020 18:50

I'm a teacher and we've been told that it won't be normal in September!

My thoughts are January.

Delatron · 08/06/2020 19:01

I wonder how everyone knows?
It’s June 8th so September is pretty much 3 months away. Think back 3 months. March 8th. Cheltenham was in full swing, concerts etc. Then look what has happened since.

Nobody has been able to predict how this virus has panned out. We couldn’t predict the peak. We can’t predict whether there will be a second wave.

We don’t know. So it could be just as likely as we are down to zero deaths in a month. That will be first week in July. But we’re saying keep the kids off until 2021?

Now that may not happen and there may be a second wave. None of us know. But if we carry on this downward trend and have the pubs open, restaurants open, foreign holidays etc it will be very hard to justify why children must stay at home for months and months more....

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/06/2020 19:04

No one knows really, even teachers. The government doesn't even know!

It's just best to plan for all outcomes. The situation is ever changing.

worzelsnurzel123 · 08/06/2020 19:09

We’ve been told September by our school and back full time.

worzelsnurzel123 · 08/06/2020 19:09

September 2020 not 2021

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 08/06/2020 19:13

Our school have said they definitely won’t be back full time in September (Wales).

Delatron · 08/06/2020 19:17

I wonder why schools are saying they definitely won’t be open then?

It’s one thing to plan for part time/ blended learning as we don’t know what will happen. It’s seems premature just to say they won’t open?

ChippityDoDa · 08/06/2020 19:25

If it’s not September I’m starting a protest.

Nimello · 08/06/2020 19:25

Apologies, @AmelieTaylor

I didn't mean to speak for everyone else. Or indeed anyone else!

I suppose my irritation with all the other comments saying that it will be January/Sept 2021 got the better of me.

I have one child (full boarder) in Year 13, and his school has been faultless in its seamless switch to online learning. He would normally be on study leave, but he is fully occupied all day, every day.

I have everything crossed for university offspring.

Year 11 child is being given pre-A level things to do. Again, a full boarder. The school says it is fully re-opening in September. Not blended, not part-time, not staggered. Fully operational. Thank God.

I realise, though, that I don't speak for everyone, and am happy to be reminded of this.

Eileithyiaa · 08/06/2020 19:27

I agree with PP, if it's not September I will be right there protesting with you.

It's fucking ridiculous.

BeltaneBride · 08/06/2020 19:30

Oh god all the negativity here! The drama is over /real-life now has to resume. September normal life -none of this ridiculous 'stay safe' mantra. Sure keep washing hands that was always a good idea and I have had hand sanitiser in my car always anyway.
But stop hiding behind the bleaters wanting 'social distancing' which is not possibly in school and get the kids back before they all sink into depression.

BeltaneBride · 08/06/2020 19:32

The french science minister said today that he thought it was a mistake to close schools at all based on the most recent available evidence as regards transmission by children
Yes was knee jerk reaction fuelled by hysteria.

bonsaidragon · 08/06/2020 19:34

@bonsaidragon - what age are your children?

High school age.

Oh god all the negativity here!

@BeltaneBride have you got any idea what is involved in re-opening a secondary school that has been closed for several months?
