Lockdown is so much harder knowing more are breaking the rules now

I had a baby the day before lockdown started. I am so desperate to visit my mum and let her hold him and have a cup of tea with her. She's 65, for and healthy, and hasn't been out. My dad does a food shop once a week but other than that they're in their house and garden. The risk of them or is having it so low. We also only go out once a week for shopping and daily exercise where we don't pass anyone.

It's so much harder knowing other people are doing what they want Sad

My husband won't break any rules so we are sticking to lockdown as we are meant to

But you can do that , you can sit in her garden 2 metres apart and you can go for a walk, to the park, etc

If you're in England it's 6 people you can now meet

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 07/06/2020 21:45

But you can go and see her in her garden without breaking and rules so really you're being a martyr. We aren't all just doing what we want but plenty of us are able to live a bit more freely now within the rules.

BakedCam · 07/06/2020 21:45

You're able to go and see your parents. Please do.

Bathbedandbeyond · 07/06/2020 21:45

OP, you don’t need to stay in your house end garden anymore, you wouldn’t be breaking any rules Confused

howlatthetrees · 07/06/2020 21:46

You are able to see your parents

hermionegrange · 07/06/2020 21:47

I know, we had a two and a half year old too so it's not really possible because he doesn't understand social distancing. I'm so desperate for her to hold the baby and so sad for the past 11 weeks that she's missed out on.

I know so many people that are breaking the rules and going into family homes or where kids are staying over at grandparents. When I felt like the majority were following the rules it felt easier, but it seems more and more are deciding their own rules and that makes it so much more rubbish

You cant really complain about the rules if you aren't keeping up with the latest ones

Or do you mean your parents live a good distance from you?

bigchris · 07/06/2020 21:48

Just you and the baby go then

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/06/2020 21:48

You are permitted to go out for more than ‘daily exercise’. You can go out as many times as you like for exercise, and you are also able to meet your parents in public and in your gardens. Your baby will be in your arms so no concerns around social distancing (as there are with my 16 month old). There is no reason for you to not see your parents, or to be a martyr.

Ploppymoodypants · 07/06/2020 21:49

Hello, I agree with you. It’s much harder now that everyone around us seems to be letting their kids play in the street or at the beach all together and only the adults making a token gesture of social distancing. I get how people think ‘we’ll the kids are at school together so what’s the point of them being apart to play’ 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anyway take your baby and visit your mum. It’s not breaking any rules. Just take your own flask of drink and sit 2m apart in the garden. That’s absolutely allowed and will be very good for you.

Congratulations on your baby

Abbccc · 07/06/2020 21:49

Could you go and see your mum without your toddler?

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/06/2020 21:49

Then why don’t you and the baby go and see them in their garden? Or yours? That is allowed.

userxx · 07/06/2020 21:50

Wtf! You are choosing to not visit her, stop harping on about how sad you are.

lljkk · 07/06/2020 21:50

This is really about you disagreeing with your H about following the rules, isn't it (I'm slow, sorry).

Earlybirdey · 07/06/2020 21:52

There is no way the police can enforce anything now, it's a farce. Take a measured risk assessment and see her if you want.

Vargas · 07/06/2020 21:52

You're complaining about rules that no longer exist Hmm

Badmemorieshouse · 07/06/2020 21:53

Just take the baby and go and see her!

hermionegrange · 07/06/2020 21:53

My husband wouldn't allow it. We went to their garden this week and had to
Leave as toddler couldn't understand why he couldn't go into the house and was getting upset, and he ran over to see my mum and she hugged him and when we got home my husband was so upset and cross. I don't think he would be keen on my going by myself

Inthebelljar · 07/06/2020 21:54

Honestly just go!

User8008135 · 07/06/2020 21:54

What rules would you be breaking for a social distance meet up?

Inthebelljar · 07/06/2020 21:55

Your husband wouldn’t want to you to go and visit your own mother by yourself? Why on earth not?

Drivingdownthe101 · 07/06/2020 21:56

You wouldn’t be breaking any rules except those imposed by your husband.
This is nothing to do with what other people are doing. Other people are seeing family within the rules. This is about your husband not allowing you to make your own decisions within the guidelines.

Napqueen1234 · 07/06/2020 21:57

Your husband needs to chill out and realise your feelings are valid. I would take both kids and spend time with your parents the risk is incredibly low. If not insist on just taking the baby. Do you do everything your husband says?

User8008135 · 07/06/2020 21:57

Is he normally do anxious and controlling? Go without the toddler, tiny ones can't be expected to remember to social distance lots. Or is he annoyed your mum hugged rather then remind your toddler?
