Labour councils preventing schools going back

So it is mostly labour run councils across the country that are preventing state school children from going back in their areas.

Within these areas most private schools are reopening and state schools are not. So much for being the party that wants to close the attainment gap. Talk about playing party politics with children’s welfare, mental health and education.

@Carycy I don’t understand your point? Are you surprised that Labour areas are putting their constituents first and the Tory areas are not?

I agree. I am a labour voter but think the schools should go back immediately,
My local area is labour and most schools not opening....spurious reasons

Nobby I am not a journalist or writing a god damn essay. This is a discussion forum. I have just noted over the passing weeks that it is all labour councils preventing schools opening. That is my source. Go look for yourself. You will see that is the case.

I’m in a Labour area with one of the highest rates in England and schools have been directed to open.

I live under a conservative council and the schools in my area are only open for the key workers children. They aren't allowing any other children back in yet. So it's not just labour run councils.

So youre talking bullshit then op? Youve observed this yourself. Without sources. Somehow...

What a waste of time.

Depends how you read it toothfairy. You already know this of course and are being facetious. I see it as letting their constituents down. Letting the attainment gap between the state educated and privately educated widen. Letting vulnerable children remain trapped in their homes. This is a disease that does not statistically significantly affect children as has already been demonstrated so yes I think it is reasonable for them to go to school at some point this year.

Which is your source? Sorry, bit confused as I thought a different poster (not the OP) had posted the link.

most private schools are reopening and state schools are not. I would like a source for this op.

Also, the sky news article above is quite out of date now.

Lily as I said it’s a discussion forum. Sorry I didn’t have all my essay references ready. Perhaps you should just read the BMJ.

This is a disease that does not statistically significantly affect children as has already been demonstrated this would be a perfect argument... if there were no adults in schools Hmm

Report
LilyMarshall · 06/06/2020 23:48

Lol! No. If you create an entire post based on ‘most private schools‘ are open, you need at least a shred of evidence

Report
Carycy · 06/06/2020 23:48

Oh so there are no adults working in supermarkets, hospitals, IKEA, McDonald’s, delivery services. They can go all go back but the teachers can’t...

I missed the last bit Perhaps you should just read the BMJ. the BMJ has stated private schools have opened?!

Carycy · 06/06/2020 23:49

Lily I am basing in on the fact that I have a lot of friends with kids in different private schools all returning!

Which suggests those services are more essential than education..

It is a discussion forum, yes. Am happy to have a discussion, but not about unsubstantiated stirring.

I live in a conservative run area and the adjourning town is also conservative run. The adjourning town as a council said right from the beginning that they weren't opening schools. The cluster of schools that my daughters school is a part of were due to open Monday but have now decided that they are not opening yet and only keyworker children will still attend.

Not sure where the information has come from about labour councils.

Of course McDonald’s and ikea are more essential than an education !

Never mind the 'So", the fact that more Labour councils near you are not opening schools isn't really relevant. Schools are varying wth regard to opening all over the country regardless of politics. Some that opened last week have closed again because of cases. A lot depends on the head teacher and staff, the same applies to private schools many of which are not going to open before September which is very sensible in my view.

Completely disagree OP, mine is a Tory Council and not sending kids back, because the evidence suggests it is not safe.

Our council is a Labour council, our R rate is 1.01 and our schools are open Hmm

Report
RoseGoldCloud · 07/06/2020 00:00

My area has one of the lowest R rates in the country. The local labour council have advised the schools to remain closed anyway. I agree with you OP, if there’s a particular issue locally then sure close the schools. But this isn’t about the R rate. The councils advising schools not to open are randomly scattered across the country not necessarily in high R rate areas.
