A school one...year 1

If my child is in year one they can currently attend school. But in September when they go in to year 2 will they not be able to?
A reception aged child will be ok because they will move in to year one.
And a nursery child will be ok.

Do you really think that the guidelines will still be the same in September as they are now?

Lockdown starred 3 months ago, there have been dozens of changes to guidelines in that period covering all aspects of life.

I do t think school will be 'normal' in September but it's still 3 months away, there's lots of time for things to change.

I was wondering this too! My ds is in yr 5. Wondering if come September there will still be a focus on getting yr6 in school. I guess it’s a long time off (in terms of coronavirus) things changes very rapidly, so goodness only knows what will happen come September!

I've no way of knowing?!

I would imagine Y1/2 will become priority year groups in September because of the 2021 phonic screener and SATs which I wouldn’t imagine the government will cancel again.

We certainly aren’t thinking of starting any new YR in September if classes aren’t back to normal.

nevergoingoutagain · 06/06/2020 18:59

@coronastoner why do you think anyone on here will know then?

Are you a teacher? Ah so you think my year one child will still be able to go in then in year 2?

I know you don't Know for sure but interested if you think that may be the case :-)

I am a teacher, yes.

I expect so. It may not be full time though.

I think the reason those two year groups were chosen was to do with the phonics screener and SATs as well as the childcare reasons.

I know

I don't think the government have a clue. They won't have thought beyond 15th June and Yr10/12 returning, never mind July. I have zero faith that they will have even considered September yet. The scientists may have but not the government!

I do agree that they will prioritise the data years in Primary. Year 6 will be a priority but then I can't decide if it will be Yr2 or Reception. They're supposed to be rolling out their baseline assessment for all Reception pupils this year so I think that may take priority over year 2 otherwise how on Earth will they judge a good school in 7 years time... Hmm As a Year 2 teacher, I hope they're going to scrap the end of KS1 assessments now. They have absolutely no value.

Then it'll be year 1 for phonics data before 3, 4 and 5.
