It's now mandatory to wear face mask on public transport with exceptions for disability, young children etc.
This should have been done ages ago.
They also admitting face masks offers some protection

@Lynda07 the purpose of the state is to remain in control and in power - everything else is secondary.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/06/2020 08:29

Woah! So, overnight boils down to:

We should have locked down harder and sooner but fuck off, I'm not wearing a mask

Nazi Boris is stealing our liberties but fuck off, I'm not wearing a mask

I have a reason not to wear a mask, will nobody think of the children, but fuck off I'm not listening when Grant Shapps outlines the exemptions and fuck off, I'm not wearing a mask

Exemptions? You mean sharing my medical history with the world and his dog? Fuck off I'm not wearing a mask.

And lots of common sense responses where posters were told they were being patronising... and fuck off I'm not wearing a mask!

GalesThisMorning · 05/06/2020 08:33

@Derbygerbil some people are paranoid and struggling to manage proportionate reactions to something that much of the rest of the world gets on with just fine. These same people however are probably the ones screaming out for kids to return to school and primark to open...

Most people are sensible and not terrified and will just wear the damn things when they have to catch the bus.

GalesThisMorning · 05/06/2020 08:37

And the people who are determined not to surrender to the fascist empire can walk!! Leaving more room for those tired sheep to ride the bus. Win win Wink

Weedsnseeds1 · 05/06/2020 08:41

I've seen a couple of mentions of spraying masks with disinfectant.
I would really suggest you don't expose yourself to prolonged periods of phenol inhalation.
If you are worried about COVID19, why would you want to replace that with kidney and central nervous system damage, respiratory issues etc.?
Just use soap and water.

Inkpaperstars · 05/06/2020 08:42

Alec to some people on here the motives are important. They don't think this is just a matter of incompetence, they think it is a cunning plan.

Going by this thread we can welcome a few walkers which is great. More room.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 05/06/2020 08:44

Virus aside, it will stop people from eating stinky food on the train. How can this be bad news?

MarginalGain · 05/06/2020 08:45

It is not really a 'cunning plan', it's Boris Johnson having lost control and wanting to appear as though he's doing something.

Like the 2-week quarantine. it's entirely pointless, but people like it, so he's doing it.

Inkpaperstars · 05/06/2020 08:46

I agree Boris is clueless Marginal
That's what I am trying to say, he isn't capable of the kind of conspiracy some people are accusing him of.

MarshaBradyo · 05/06/2020 08:47

People are moaning from the rooftops and declaring Hyde Park Corner level diatribes.

It’s more to do with getting people on transport working and spending.

Seriously? I thought some of the posts I'd seen about wearing and removing masks were bad enough but that's incredible!

It does rather seem that those who screamed loudest for face coverings to be mandated are also the least informed about the safe use of them. Fortunately, they'll only be harming themselves

I don't see any conspiracy theorists on here, although to be fair I haven't read the thread very carefully....

I see people who think this is fucking nutso disproportionate, just more of Johnson's covid19 pageantry.

Inkpaperstars · 05/06/2020 08:50

It was tongue in cheek @Lynda07

Inkpaperstars · 05/06/2020 08:53

To be fair neither have I but why should we let that stop us? Grin

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 05/06/2020 08:53

Of course there are deaths in care homes. It's what fking care homes are for. If we actually cared about our old people we wouldn't warehouse them in value-engineered quasi-prisons until they have the decency to pop off.

This is a really shitty thing to say. People are in care homes because their families cannot physically look after them. My nan had Alzheimer's, was incontinent, needed to be moved with a hoist and required 24/7 care. Families at home cannot manage that when they are elderly themselves, often unwell or have jobs or small kids to care for. My nan's care home was nice btw

So in the absence of competent leadership, policy is dictated by the screams of the mob. And yet it's clear that many posters think it's wrong that people are speaking out against it? My opinion of people really can't sink any lower but there's certainly an endless stream of evidence strengthening that opinion.
SlobberedOnRepublica · 05/06/2020 08:59

Why are people so against them? I genuinely don't understand. What it Orwellian about it?

More the fact that you will have to keep sticking a potentially grubby rag on and off your face contaminated by dirty public transport.

Davincitoad · 05/06/2020 09:01

@GalesThisMorning you what? Hmm

Davincitoad · 05/06/2020 09:02

@Weedsnseeds1 who would be spraying phenol??????

Teawiththat · 05/06/2020 09:04

Or you just pop it into a sandwich bag when you get off the bus or whatever, being mindful not to touch the inside, and then put it back on for the return journey; or even better just carry 2. Honestly why are we all so special and inept that we cannot manage what is a simple task?

Davincitoad · 05/06/2020 09:04

So much opposition to a simple solution to reducing spread

So much bullshit clearly picked up from random internet posts. But obviously they must be right. Not actual medical professionals. I despair living in a world where this is the case.

Weedsnseeds1 · 05/06/2020 09:04

Davincitoad what do you think the active ingredient of a lot of disinfectants is? Any of the ones that go a bit cloudy in water are phenolic compounds.

5MikesOut · 05/06/2020 09:05

Alec That sounds like a disproportionate, paranoid and conspiracy ridden diatribe from an angry YouTuber. The problem is the more you look into some of the unlikeliest theories around a subject, the more recommendations the algorithms throw onto your screen. So if you are feeding yourself with dystopian, authoritarian agendas for these requirements, the more will be suggested and recommended until your feed is full of the same thinking.

Suffering and dying from COVID-19 is very real, very distressing to see and to try to medically support effectively once it gets to a certain point. I am very glad to hear you know of no one who has had it but I have and quite simply, I don’t want it to keep a grip on our country to the extent it has, still is and tragically still will have unless the government get test and trace sorted properly, people who are (hopefully ) found and contacted isolate and we ALL observe the hygiene requirements to get this bloody virus into a containment situation.

The UK is not, or rather, should not be a haven of unique citizens who must be given gentle and special and indulgent handling so as not to upset them or infringe their human rights. We need to be responsible, sensible adults here and just fucking do it. No one is asking you to swallow a fiery sword here. Just to put a small barrier of cloth betwixt you and some of your bodily emissions while you are in an enclosed space where you will be in close proximity to others.

IvinghoeBeacon · 05/06/2020 09:18

It is of course possible to voice objection to these things whilst still complying, so I don’t see how discussing it stops things “going back to normal [with masks on]”. Unless those who agree with it don’t want to hear dissenting voices at all? I don’t like masks but I rarely use public transport (and I can see the wisdom of it there if anywhere), so aren’t I the lucky one. If it becomes compulsory in shops I will wear one if I have to go into a shop. Doesn’t make me stop thinking and possibly even talking about how I don’t want to and how I doubt its effectiveness.
