What counts as 'close contact' for test/trace purposes?

Just that really.

If someone tests positive, who is going to have to self-isolate for 14 days? Just close family, anyone who has had any contact or somewhere in between. The NHS website says 'close contact' but I have no idea what this means, or who decides what 'close' is.

Less than 2m for more than 15minutes.

@museummum thank you! That's very clear.

So follow-up question. If I have been within 2m for more than 15 minutes of someone who tests positive, do just I have to isolate or does my entire household have to?

Only you would have to self isolate For 14 days at that point. It’s only if you become ill/test positive that your household would Then also have to.

Just you, unless you or they develop symptoms. At that point all of you.

Also it's 14 days now, not 7.

Thanks all.
