Pick a Prime Minister

Since it seems to be the widely-held view that Boris Johnson hasn't done a great job of handling this crisis, which recent (last 30 years) former PM do you think would have done the best?

Margaret Thatcher
John Major
Tony Blair
Gordon Brown
David Cameron
Theresa May

Throw in the LOTOs for good measure:

Jeremy Corbyn
Ed Miliband
(David Cameron)
Michael Howard
Ian Duncan Smith
William Hague
(Tony Blair)
John Smith
Neil Kinnock

Throw in Ken Clarke for good measure, since he was almost LOTO twice and held two of the Great Offices of State.

I am genuinely curious as to what people think! My guess would be Blair or Thatcher. Not sure if I could cope with the gushy Blair speeches every day, personally, though.

Gordon Brown, without the last 10 years of austerity.

Can we have Jacinda though?

In theory, I ought to agree, but in practice I find her Halo irritating.

I’ll go for a bit of Starmer though.

SpringFan · 04/06/2020 08:31

I might have agreed about Jacinther but following another thread where the OP was misled into going to NZ, with her Kiwi husband and children, their laws about emotional and financial abuse and custody of children are antiquated.

Freddie Mercury
( oops wrong thread 😂)

Gordon - steady and safe. Calm. Sensible. Kind....quote
I thought he flew into uncontrollable rages

Ed mulliband or Gordon brown.
If it had to be a tory I'd far rather have Cameron. I don't like his beliefs but I do believe he does care about the country far more that Johnson.

Jourdain11 · 04/06/2020 12:51

I think you can't really judge how JA would do as UK PM based on the information available... very different country, different population size, in many ways quite isolated... A NZ colleague said to me when they locked down that she wasn't surprised because NZ would be "very easy to lock down"!

Keir Starmer

WhatsHappeningCaroleBaskin · 04/06/2020 12:55

I would say Gordon Brown too.. in the absence of Kier Starmer

GinnyStrupac · 04/06/2020 15:19

Yes OP, you've missed Keir Starmer off your list. Much better than the current shambles BJ & DomCum.
