Competitive sport - swimming?

So, all competitive sport has been given the go ahead to open up. Do you think swimming will be included?

I had resigned myself to the fact DS would be without his swims for at least another month, but now I'm hopeful he'll be back in the pool sooner than that (couldn't come too soon as there were years today about his lack of access to water and he's getting really agitated without his swims :( )

I didn't think there were any plans to open indoor or outdoor pool for the moment.

I don’t see how club swimming we be the same for ages. Both of my children were club swimmers. They used to have ten per lane (25m pool, 6 lanes). I was thinking about this the other day. If you were to social distance you would have to have 3 double width lanes, instead of 6. The middle lane would have to be empty. So you’d probably have like 8 kids per double lane, and you’d have to swim in like a rectangle shape, rather than up and down. So instead of 60 kids in the pool at once, you’d only have 16. I’m just not sure how it will work financially for the clubs.
I hope your son can get back in the water soon though in some capacity x

Where did you hear this?

Think it was elite only first so Olympic/Paralympic/ commonwealth level. Open water allowed but not recommended if you haven't done it before.

Would you have to social distance in the pool though if you could manage it outside in the changing rooms (still a big challenge) but chlorine would kill the virus in the pool?

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 11:13

They explicitly said not swimming

Hoppinggreen · 31/05/2020 11:14

A friend of DDs did an open water swim yesterday with her club but there’s no pool access yet apparently

I understood the earliest leisure centres might be able to open is 4th July. I sympathise though as my kids are swimmers too and in particular my 11 year old eldest really misses it. And it looks likely there will be no competitions this year which is also going to be difficult for him
