Some people are loving it..

Some people seem to actually be enjoying the Covid19 shitshow. They revel in pointing out the death rate in the country and how "we are the worst" . They want us to all wear masks, not to go out, heaven forbid we should go to the beach.....fucking lunacy. I am sick of the party atmosphere when they clap for the carers, the economy is fucked. There is nowt to celebrate.

OP posts:
SnuggyBuggy · 31/05/2020 06:42

These people certainly exist. You need to try and ignore them. I agree this is going to be a long term shitshow and the future is going to suck for a lot of people.

battiebatter · 31/05/2020 06:46

Wearing masks reduces transmission.

TheDrsDocMartens · 31/05/2020 06:50

Masks would reduce transmission so more people using masks (properly) would enable more people to be out and about.

The beach etc is fine if you’re not too close/acting sensibly. The issues yesterday appear to have been a lot of people on a single path and people not being sensible.

Scruffyoak · 31/05/2020 06:53

I would like to be sensible because many people think the rules do not apply to them.

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 06:59

Who wants mask wearing and no going out??

People want the UK to follow the lead of other countries. Public mask wearing - in order that we can more safely go out. For the sake of others if not ourselves. Basic manners, courtesy, and decency.

As for apparently 'loving' the shameful fact we have almost the highest death rate in the world. Really? It's quite clear it's the opposite. Lots want to prevent further avoidable deaths. Which can't be done if nobody talks about it and people shrug their shoulders passively accepting it. Or worse indulge in downplaying and Othering.

FrodoTheDodo · 31/05/2020 07:00

I agree some do but some MNetters have always been that. I think it's a bit odd to be constantly hitting refresh on daily deaths pages but for some, it helps them feel in control to be 'tracking it'. Then there are the ghouls who seem to spend an inordinate amount of time trawling the internet for doomsday evidence and triumphantly posting another piece of 'bad news' which they often haven't read properly or fully understood.

There have always been a fair few like that on MN though. It was the same with ebola, general elections and as for Brexit, I left for a while during all that!

I've seen more posts dismissively or hysterically moaning about people discussing the issues than I have people calmly discussing the issues. Spending inordinate amounts of time trawling the internet to whine about or insult other people debating a very serious issue. The irony.
THisbackwithavengeance · 31/05/2020 07:08

I agree OP.

People rubbing their hands in glee, practically willing the country to descend into some sort of post-apocalyptic Walking Dead hell hole and then they can turn round and say it serves everyone right because everyone in the UK is a thick idiot, the Government is shit and it's all Boris Johnson's fault.

Last month everyone moaning about there being no Track and Trace. Now it's here, same people now foot stamping and saying they're not going to download the stupid app.

It's just so incredibly negative and draining.

DdraigGoch · 31/05/2020 07:09

Some people do seem to be revelling in the "I told you we are doomed" stakes. It's like those who seize upon any economic bad news "look, Brexit will be a disaster and you will all suffer". They would be very bored if there were no bad news.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/05/2020 07:13

Agreed.

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 07:14

Can you link to any examples?
I've only seen the opposite. People trying to mitigate further damage. Warning, giving advice. Because we have two choices now. Keep going as we are and suffer further damage OR change things for the better. They can't happen if people don't say anything.

Where's the glee in trying to prevent something bad happening. We can't go back but what we do now affects how things are several months down the line.

Where is this glee you refer to? Not on Mumsnet that I've seen.

Iggly · 31/05/2020 07:16

I don’t believe you OP, sorry.

The only people who I know who think people revel in the bad news are the ones who think we should blindly support this government’s efforts.

Even though they’re shit.

Bluemoooon · 31/05/2020 07:23

When we locked down the police got slated for being too hard. Now everyone is saying we are reducing lockdown too soon. Soon everyone will be saying we stayed locked down too long and it has damaged the economy.
The media is doom laden with sad stories. But there were sad stories before Corona - surely there is something not Corona related to report.

Selmaselma · 31/05/2020 07:23

Please, can anyone who is loving it speak up?

SnuggyBuggy · 31/05/2020 07:24

I'll also add people who love creating their own rules and holding other people to them. The sort that criticise people for doing legal things like getting a takeaway.

Bluemoooon · 31/05/2020 07:24

People rubbing their hands in glee, practically willing the country to descend into some sort of post-apocalyptic Walking Dead hell hole and then they can turn round and say it serves everyone right because everyone in the UK is a thick idiot, the Government is shit and it's all Boris Johnson's fault.

So true

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 07:24

Nope also dont believe you. Some people are aware that, while it's not a contest, there are countries that will come out of this with excess deaths in the tens. And that maybe, just maybe, we could learn something from this country. Some people believe that we need to keep highlighting the fact that our government had utterly failed us. It doesn't matter how lovable you may find Boris or how much you hated Jeremy Corbyn or that you have common sense and good health in abundance so were always going to be just fine.

The government failed us. We are here because they made, and continue to make, shit decisions. It's their job and we need to hold them accountable. This will probably not be the last crisis in our lifetime, not with climate change as it as and so we need to demand that our elected leaders do better.

So if you want to cavort round the beach while hugging your beighbours and singing it's all over we won, by all means go for it. I will continue to be aware of the death rate, I will continue to hold our government accountable. I also will wear a face covering (willing to be that at some point in the not distant future you will too OP).

Mintjulia · 31/05/2020 07:25

I don’t agree. Everyone I know just wants to get back to normal and if that means locking down properly for another six weeks, can we just get it over with.

I don’t understand the need to travel to a beach, no. We’ll still be losing 400 people a day in November if people act like that.

Redolent · 31/05/2020 07:25

Nonsense. I want us all to wear masks so that we CAN go out. So that the infection rate drops further. So that we can safely resume our normal activities. It’s not fucking rocket science.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 07:26

Typos galore there!!

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 31/05/2020 07:29

OP to me it seems like you are trying to shame people for being outraged that we have the highest death rate in Europe.

I’d have a long hard look at yourself.

Namechange8186 · 31/05/2020 07:30

Oh I know a few in real life like this !

“ I don’t know why people are finding it so hard we are enjoying been at home so Much , could be quite happy doing this a while longer haha Etc etc “ Been so utterly confused at the “selfish” people who are desperate for some normality back.

Well you would be wouldn’t you , you haven’t been separated from your partner for the last 2.5 months
Your job is secure
Your house and garden are lovely
Your mental health is fine
and so on ...

Some people also really do enjoy big dramas as well as long as they are ok the bloody revel in shit like this

wafflyversatile · 31/05/2020 07:31

Wanting people to wear masks when appropriate and to stay safe isn't loving it. It's important to know and understand how badly our government are handling this, and to hold them to account. Not sure how sticking your head in the sand is going to do anything other than increase the death count.

itsgettingweird · 31/05/2020 07:38

Loving it? Seriously?

Ive seem people over various different SM and heard in RL people complaining we are still too locked down and as flu season is over and COVID is just a mild flu - we need to move on.

So there times to remind people about the death rate. That ours is the highest on Europe.

Crowded beaches. Crowded parks. Street parties. Mass sports games. These are happening and are contributing to it all.

No one is loving the real fear we have of a second spike - that I have seen anywhere.

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 07:43

Certainly many appear to be loving whining and bitching about others apparently loving it. Multiple posts daily. Always hysterically insisting if it's not immediate lifting, it has to be lockdown for months rather than, you know, a couple of extra weeks whilst we belatedly implement the simple measures other countries took to make things safer. It's their inpatient foot stamping that's delayed our (UK) return to proper normality. More haste less speed.
