Some people seem to actually be enjoying the Covid19 shitshow. They revel in pointing out the death rate in the country and how "we are the worst" . They want us to all wear masks, not to go out, heaven forbid we should go to the beach.....fucking lunacy. I am sick of the party atmosphere when they clap for the carers, the economy is fucked. There is nowt to celebrate.

Your poor friend. What you've described sounds like she's struggling with her MH and scared. Very far from enjoying it. She'd benefit from a supportive friend. That means one who doesn't call her a dementor (a word inspired by demented) behind her back on a public forum.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 09:17

@LisaSimpsonsbff are you mistaking excitement for outrage? How should we feel?

Redolent · 31/05/2020 09:18

I’m guessing Anthony Costello is loving it too…

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 09:22

If anything the footstamping moaning Othering minimalisers are more like dementors than those trying to mitigate the damage. Thanks to them we face having the joy sucked out of our lives for so much longer than necessary. Dragging it all out. Risking more avoidable deaths, slower return to proper reality, and more difficult economic recovery. What a shame. For a matter of two or three extra weeks (during which we could finally implement the precautionary measures needed for a safer exit).

LisaSimpsonsbff · 31/05/2020 09:31

I think there's some legitimate anger and outrage, and some excitement and virtue signalling and I don't think it's as difficult to tell the difference as people on this thread are pretending.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 09:34

Well I disagree Lisa. I've not seen anyone who is excited about this virus and the tens of thousands of deaths & economic devastation.

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 09:41

So what should people do @LisaSimpsonsbff?
Shut up, not highlight the issues, don't discuss them?
That's the best way of ensuring nothing gets better. The government's relying on public passive or sadly in some cases enthusiastic acceptance.

It's not about virtue signalling. That's pointless as we can't go back.
But what we do now affects how things will be in the next couple of months. Calling for the simple measures other countries have already taken is not virtue signalling or indeed anger. It's about asking for proactive action. To mitigate against further damage.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 09:48

Yes toffee I agree. We need to demand better things of our government and not be fobbed off by being allowed to shop and have garden parties. It's not good enough.

EnlightenedOwl · 31/05/2020 09:52

@itsgettingweird

Enlightened I never suggested we should hide forever? My post doesn't say that. I highlighted that as well as people scaremongering there are the opposite end if the spectrum of people who think this is just a mild flu. So at times people need to mention death rates etc to remind them this isn't a mild flu. And the other end of the scale of people flocking to crowded places need reminding at times despite the fact we do need to get back to some normality and start the economy we are still at risk.

And I think the message has reached a vast majority of the population. But with anything there will be extremes. It's generally the extreme people write about.

Hysterical ranting about death rates is unhelpful
Fluffyglitterystuff · 31/05/2020 09:55

There definitely are people like that. The doom mongers. They'd absolutely love it if we were locked up for the next 5 years. They were the ones screaming hysterically about joggers murdering people.

But I do worry when I see pictures of very packed beaches.

It isn't the going to the beach that's the problem, it's how busy some seem to be. We are not quite out of the woods and I feel people still need to be careful and sensible.

It's people acting stupid, getting stuck on cliffs and so forth.

There were idiots yesterday riding around my city on motorbikes doing wheelies on a main road. Idiotic at the best of times.

I want to get back to normal and I worry that idiots will make normal less safe.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 09:57

Hysterical ranting about death rates is unhelpful

Or do you mean talking about terrible death rates is upsetting? If that's the case I would agree. It is upsetting. But it would be even worse if we didn't look at how badly our government has managed this crisis.

Abdolutely. Fortunately nobody's doing that. Hysterical ranting about supposed ranting? What can we do. Some people moan about anything.

Highlighting the shocking UK situation is not about relishing doom and gloom. It's the very opposite. It's about saying hang on, this is bad, let's do something about all this so it doesn't get any worse.

Perspective. Died with CV or of it? Fundamental difference
missyoumuch · 31/05/2020 10:02

Yes there are two or three people who post on my local mums FB group with a picture of people in a park or on a beach (legal where I am in small groups - not UK) saying “There will be a huge spike in cases because of people like this.” Been about 2.5 months since these posts started and the predicted spikes have yet to materialise.

It’s like they want everyone shut in forever because that’s their preference. We need to be cautious but if it’s legal and allowed in your city what’s the point in shaming people for living their lives? The virus is not going away overnight.

QuornHub · 31/05/2020 10:04

Nobody is 'loving it'.

Don't be ridiculous.

Jayfee · 31/05/2020 10:05

I stopped watching the BBC news because at one point it was totally negative whereas ITV seemed to have more balance.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 10:08

@EnlightenedOwl are you happy with the governments handling of this crisis? Do you think the media have whipped us all up into a frenzy and the actual threat from the virus is mild?

Lots of people believe this. I don't know what to say to them. Same with the whole Bill Gates 5G thing.

Jayfee · 31/05/2020 10:09

Also, if you want to read some serious moaning, pop over to gransnet. Some posters on there love the quiet and the empty streets of lockdown (reminds me of a Zombie movie) and resent any signs of people out and about doing normal fun things

PJ6M · 31/05/2020 10:09

Don't wear a mask and go to the beach then. It's pretty fucking simple.

But if the infections go up and we end up locked down again, dont be a hypocrite and whine about it.

whenthejoyreturns · 31/05/2020 10:16

I agree with you OP and many of those people have replied on this thread. So negative and utterly draining.

Destroying the country because of hysteria and rabid fear is terrifying. For many this is a mild disease.

GalesThisMorning · 31/05/2020 10:37

Yes. And for many it's not. We did not have to get to this stage. We could have locked down earlier, banned large events, closed borders, implemented track and trace, and mandated masks. We could have prevented this. Our government chose not to

MarcsLover · 31/05/2020 11:10

Please show me another densely populated European country that has "done things differently" ?

Thank God we didn't implement this level of hysteria. I wont be engaging with apps or track and trace either
Footsanitiser · 31/05/2020 11:17

I havent met anyone in real life but there are a few MN who predicted early that it was going to be awful., maybe when others were unaware/more optimistic and the tone of some posts is "I told you so" or thinking they need some kind of recognition for "knowing" exactly what was going to happen before everyone else even the government
