Are you still paying for children's after school activities; dance, swimming

Was just going through my finances, as I have taken a pay drop from work, and realised I am still paying DD dance class, which is paid by standing order each month. The classes were cancelled in March and I haven't heard from them since but money is still going out. Was going to cancel the standing order but would like some opinions on what everyone else has done

I am paying for Beavers as they are still doing activities and badge work online.

I am not paying for swimming.

greensnail · 29/05/2020 10:30

We're paying for dance as that is continuing by zoom. Music lessons are providing prerecorded online lessons, not actual video calls and have reduced fees significantly so I'm continuing to pay a reduced fee for them.

10storeylovesong · 29/05/2020 10:55

We're paying half fees for swimming lessons to keep the place.

Still paying for Beavers but they're doing online Zoom meetings each week and have organised badge work etc at home.

Still paying half fees at nursery even though it's been closed since March.

Still paying for Chester Zoo membership even though closed.

Luckily we're in a position where neither of our wages have changed so we can afford it, but it's a lot of money to pay out for services we can't access.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 29/05/2020 10:59

Swimming cancelled so they've popped that onto a credit for when we can go back. Dancing, piano and ninjas still paying dancing at a reduced rate others the same. Both kids still enjoy doing the lessons even though they're online and I don't want the small businesses to go under.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 29/05/2020 10:59

All direct debits stopped initially.
CLUB swimming then gave option to remove from team or continue paying £5 a month to keep some money in the coffers. They have missed out on two of our fundraising galas because of Covid which normally helps subsidise the pool use the rest of the year so no problem paying it.

Deelish75 · 29/05/2020 11:26

Dd's swimming lessons are at the council run swimming pool and are payed termly. She had three lessons to go when the pools shut. The leisure centre emailed us before Easter to say they would carry her lessons over to whenever they were allowed to start up again or we could have a refund. So we've left it for now.

I'm hoping they start again early July and are booking September's lessons out soon.

Lordfrontpaw · 29/05/2020 11:29

No - they wrote to us and said they were closing down and freezing direct debits.

My gym has said anything beyond ‘we are taking care of it’ (I have an annual membership so assume they will tack on some months).

Confuzzlediddled · 29/05/2020 11:33

Dds theatre school has continued online, but the price has been dropped dramatically and she's actually doing more classes than before, as well as family activities and masterclasses with West end stars! They're planning to continue some online provision after the school can open again as it's been so successful. It's a one man band type organisation so it's been a great achievement.

Justgivemesomepeace · 29/05/2020 11:35

No. Netball no charges, swimming no charges, beavers has halved it but they are still doing badges on line and zoom meetings every week.

Littlebopeep123 · 29/05/2020 12:00

DD is doing online gymnastics sessions which we are currently paying half the normal fee for. It's not the amount of hours she would spend in the gym but want to support them and currently can afford to.

wendz86 · 29/05/2020 13:34

Swimming they have frozen payment . Gymnastics - I paid for summer term but they are holding it for autumn term.
Dancing - paying a cheaper rate for online classes .

Qasd · 29/05/2020 13:36

Only for those still taking place so dance yes because done over zoom but tennis and swimming not because they cannot be done remotely obviously

Shinygreenelephant · 29/05/2020 13:39

My oldest daughter still has 3hrs per week of dance lessons on zoom (usually 8) plus they send stretches every other day and dance/gym challenges weekly. They've also dropped treat boxes off to all the kids on the day their exams should have been held to cheer them up, and are hosting a weekly quiz night for the families. They haven't charged us a penny and have refused when us mums have offered to pay next term in advance. My youngest is also having her classes on zoom but I have to pay for those at a much reduced rate (different dance school as she's only 1)

onemouseplace · 29/05/2020 13:42

Swimming lessons frozen. Dance we only missed a couple at the end of last term and their teacher has said she'll take that into account whenever they go back. Drama they've had a couple of Zoom sessions to make up the missed lessons.

Chrysanthemum5 · 29/05/2020 13:55

I'm still paying because I'm still working and being paid (plus most of them are offering online classes where possible)

cologne4711 · 29/05/2020 15:29

Swimming has been suspended for both ds and me.

We'd paid for athletics a year in advance, more or less (in February). The club has saved on track hire, so maybe they will extend the membership. We'll have to see when activities resume (hopefully from Monday if England Athletics gets its finger out and updates its guidance to allow small group training). I had also paid my own running club subscription in March, too.

I'd paid for a block of ten driving lessons which ds will take when they resume, I think he'd used 2 of them.

And I'd paid for a block of ten PT sessions and used about 3 of them, but PT has been sending me sessions to do and says she'll use one session for each month of programming which is quite generous so I think I will be down to 5.

ElsasSalamander · 29/05/2020 15:53

Swimming direct debit was frozen. Still paying for dancing but receiving lessons via Zoom until the class can reopen.
