Mild cold symptoms

Currently arguing with dh here! He’s developed a blocked nose and his sinuses are feeling a bit irritated. Nothing else. I say he should have a test hit he’s adamant it’s nothing. He doesn’t usually get hayfever. Should he just carry on as normal? He feels fine apart from this

Sound alike hay fever to me!! A lot of people are getting it this year who haven’t before. Possibly to do with lower pollution rates so not dampening down the pollen as usual. Or the warmer weather so plants are blossoming earlier. Or a combination of both. This info was from an immunologist.

Also I think the Gov. are quite stringent over the symptoms. It has to be dry cough, temperature or different/loss of taste or smell. I believe they will not test for anything else.

I have started using the zoe app and I put in my hayfe er symptoms (irritated Nadal passage and sinus issue and slight watering eyes) and dd2 on a different day was nauseous and the app said we should get a test 🤷🏼‍♀️ so maybe he should!

If you register for the Zoe App you can self report. They are collecting the data for research. It doesn't require you to give a lot of information, but if you report feeling unwell they can send you a test. It takes the guess work out of it. You enter truthfully your symptoms and how you feel, and they decide if it warrants a test.

We are advising patients with similar symptoms to get tested.

We do the Zoe app, I put myself and children’s info in every day but dh has his own. I hope he’s filled it in truthfully! Maybe he should get a test just to rule it out. I will talk to him about it

You don't always get offered a test if you report symptoms on Zoe app. I reported a dodgy tummy a few weeks ago (didn't get tested in the end), but when I reported it again a few days ago, I heard nothing.

It sounds like hay fever. Mine has been terrible this year, I've been coughing since March and I sound like I've permanently got a cold. Unfortunately this will now go on until September!

My friend (tested positive) had sinusitis as a symptom.

No he shouldn't carry on as normal. He should test.

Can't believe people would think a bit of a blocked nose necessitates a test. Is a blocked nose even a symptom of Covid? It wouldn't occur to me to have a test for a stuffy nose!

Has he taken an antihistamine? That’s the obvious answer.. I wake up with Covid like symptoms every day. Sore throat, headache, sinus pain but also very itchy eyes & runny nose! Within 30 mins of taking my antihistamine, the symptoms are mostly gone bar the itchy eyes. I cannot shift those, the stream all day long 😩 and by the end of the day, the runny nose is back!

Pollen does seem to be high. I’m suffering a bit more than usual this year but possibly because I’m not stuck in an office & walking in woods which I don’t usually do very often!

@scarlettdarling that’s the point. This is a very new virus so nobody can really say for certain what is definitely not a symptom.

The ZOE app in particular may be looking to narrow down earlier symptoms or symptoms of people who would otherwise presume they were asymptomatic.

That’s not to say that anyone should immediately presume they’ve caught covid if they feel unwell (there’s still lots of other ailments) but it’s a fair question to wonder. Participating in ZOE is really useful for research even if you don’t have it.

I spoke to him and he said it’s completely gone now. So it lasted nearly two days and went. He doesn’t think it’s necessary to take a test. If I were him I would have.

@Cornettoninja I'm aware that we still have a lot to learn about Covid but that doesn't mean that any and every time we have any physical symptom we should seek a test. Earache? Stuffy nose? Palpitations? Stiff back? Do you really think symptoms like this mean someone should be tested?

Glad your dh is back to normal op and that it wasn't anything to worry about.

@ScarlettDarling no I don’t think every symptom should trigger testing but I do believe there’s an argument for monitoring our health very closely at the moment which is why I think the symptom tracker is so important.
