Childcare update 28 May

TriangleBingoBongo · 28/05/2020 10:48

I understand the gov is supposed to make an announcement today with guidance for childcare providers. I am waiting for this announcement to know if my toddler can return to childcare on 1st June.

Does anyone know what form this announcement will take? I.e will it just be sneaked online at gov.uk?

Well every other one has been in the evening briefing.... I’d assume the same today. Any reason to assume any different?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/05/2020 10:53

PS it will do!

TriangleBingoBongo · 28/05/2020 11:27

I think before they have just posted updated guidance with no real announcement? Or announced stuff so vaguely it was difficult to apply it practically until the guidance was released.

I don’t know any update that hasn’t been in a proper briefing. More detailed guidance is usually published in the following days but the actual announcements such as schools returning, cancelling exams, business closures, financial schemes etc have all been during the briefings. The guidance on how schools and childcare should reopen has already been published.

HattieMid2 · 28/05/2020 11:50

Yes I thought they had already announced that childcare can resume from June 1st?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/05/2020 12:05

They are just going to confirm today that they will be reopening.

I really want the question from the public to be 'if childminders can reopen can grandparents/family/friends look after DC again for childcare reasons'

I mean obviously I know grandparents tend to be older but I also know grandparents in their 40s and 50s (and a few dads of nursery age DC that are older than my own dad).

TriangleBingoBongo · 28/05/2020 12:45

I’ve been told by the childminder that she won’t know if she can take my child until today’s announcement.

Thank you for your help. I don’t profess to have a particular knowledge of the corona briefings. I stopped listening regularly sometime ago.

They will confirm today whether schools and child care can reopen on Monday as planned during the briefing.

TriangleBingoBongo · 28/05/2020 13:10

Ahh thank you Bubbly.

The guidance is already out on how we can safely open up our childcare settings from next week, and the advise is childcare is only to be offered at one setting, so nursery or childminder etc not both and lots of settings will be advising parents you can only choose one setting, some childminders currently will not be collecting, dropping off to nurserys, pre schools, schools etc as the risk is too high if child in lots of different bubbles.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/05/2020 13:45

I don’t believe the advice does say that Apple, can you link to it? Ive read something to the contrary.

TriangleBingoBongo · 28/05/2020 13:49

Thanks Apple.
I’m looking for a definitive answer re whether my son can attend a childminder from 1st June which I understand is to happen today.

OP posts:
Apple40 · 28/05/2020 13:50

To minimise contact between groups of children and staff, children should attend just one setting wherever possible and parents and carers should be encouraged to minimise as far as possible the number of education and childcare settings their child attends.

moimichme · 28/05/2020 13:55

I was under the impression that it will depend on the individual childminder's risk assessment, too. Ours hasn't said anything to us about re-opening for our toddler. She has been open, caring for a child of two key worker parents, but I'm not sure if anything will change for us next week or not. Guessing not!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/05/2020 14:22

Thank you!

Blerg · 28/05/2020 15:10

Our preschool has also said they will go ahead depending on what govt say today.
