Teens missing out.

JJust had a letter from school saying sept reopening is sketchy Mine definitely won't be back until then for sure.

I feel crushed. I'm so gutted for them. These years should be the best of their lives.

I feel so disappointed in everything right now. I'm normally pretty upbeat but this news has got to me.

I feel the same. My dd should have taken her driving test, she had a summer of concerts and daytrips planned. Everything’s cancelled, her job in a local pub has gone and instead of developing her independence she’s stuck at home.

These years should be the best of their lives.

It'll have been fr a few months at most.Get some perspective.

Mine meets a friend for socially distanced socialising. They'll survive. It's a pain and it's shit but these years will still be the "best of their lives".

It might not be for a few months according to schools letter. That's what I'm saying. At this age and toddler hood the brain is changing at its fastest pace. I feel like teens have been forgotten.

Concerts and festivals cancelled, as are parties and holidays. Those who don't have jobs and planned to get one in the summer will now find it more difficult so they won't be able to save money. I feel so sorry for them. Most teenagers I know were out most evenings and weekends. Those starting uni in September will have a hugely different experience than everyone else, it's such a shame.

I don't think it'll last for too much longer because I know so many teenagers and young adults that are just breaking the rules. It's been 2 months without their friends, they're getting sick of it now. I've seen bbqs, football games and gatherings of more than 2, less than 2m apart at parks and rivers. They're just not listening anymore. I have DD19 who isn't breaking the rules (that I know of) but I know so many who just don't care about it anymore.

But you're taking a situation that has gone on for a couple of months and will go on for a few more and extrapolating that to YEARS!

Everyone has had things cancelled etc. Some more devastating than others. It's not great; it's a bit shit in fact but its not going to last forever.

If it lasted for 12 months, in years to come it will become, "God, do you remember that year when...". It wont ruin their lives.

I am also so so sad for my teenagers and young people.
1 has had A levels cancelled, no idea what will happen with uni place, if she gets in we already know a lot of her first year at uni will be online.
one has missed almost the whole of his last year at Uni
one has had GCSEs cancelled. Missed all leavers stuff and prm. No clue what sixth form she will go to as none processing applications currently.
one in Y7 and Y9 - no clue when they may be back to school, not expecting them to be back full time next Spet to be honest,

all of them struggling now and the future for them all looks very bleak indeed.

sunshine their are some years of your life you will never get back and are really really important. and your wrong, the effects of this will indeed go on for years and it will be young people emerging into the world of work etc that will fair the worst.

Now these are the ones I do feel sorry for - the ones who've worked so hard for GCSEs and A Levels and for what? One of mine is facing their final year at university online and its crap but what can you do?

But a couple of concerts, holidays and a few day trips?

Why are you reading in the post that all we are concerned with are concerts. It's so much more

Mental health.
Physical health
Peer group really important at this age
Education
Long term prospects
And even worse for some trapped at home with a abusive parent.

Sunshine - if they've worked hard all year round they'll get the grades they deserve and if they don't like them will get the opportunity to resit at some point.

But you can't get back all the experiences you've missed, summer ball and prom, transition days, holidays, festivals, leavers day, concerts. Those are the bits I remember about my teenage years, the fun things I did with my friends and the memories I made, not the exam sitting.

Even if the lockdown doesn't last for years the effects of it on our teenagers certainly will.
