Holiday in September with TUI

Hi,

I've booked to go away the beginning of September for a week in Spain. I've had it booked since the new year, I would love to cancel now then ill know we won't be going as I really don't feel safe to be flying. Cancelling now will mean we lose £600 I've paid in full and on my credit card. Im 95% sure that all holidays will be cancelled this year but it's really starting to make me worry that they may not cancel.

What do you think the best option would be?
Cancel and lose £600
Or
Wait and see what happens?

Thanks.

Honestly I think the holiday will go ahead in a sense, although with social distancing reductions, simply to reduce the amount of refunds the holiday companies have to give out. Depends how much is still to be paid and when?

I was in the same situation I had a holiday booked with them for July, I held off until they had extended the dates for amending holidays and as soon as it was free to do so I amended the holiday to a later date. Means the money ive already paid isnt lost but I dont need to worry about going away when it may not be safe. I think just now you can amend holidays due to depart before the end of August for free but the date gets pushed back all the time, so if you hold off for a few weeks then this will move back to September, then you log into your booking on the website, click amend my holiday, and just search for a new one for next year or something. It means you wont have to pay anything else to it untill nearer the time too and saves that money being 'lost' as it just becomes the deposit for next year instead.

I had a holiday booked in July and decided to pay the remainder of the balance, rather than lose the deposit. TUI have now let us move it to next year. I think they were offering this for holidays to the end of August. Is it worth asking if this is an option?

I was very pleased to defer it as it had been playing on my mind. I didn’t want to go to Spain and then find nothing was open or that travellers weren’t welcome. So I understand your unease. I hope you get it sorted.

Thank for the replies,

The holidays paid for, originally it was booked for June but when they first offerer moving the holidays at the beginning of lockdown I moved ours to September. But for me I still don't feel safe. Abit annoyed as when we were originally given the option to move it for free it wouldn't let me me book for next year only the latest I could have booked was dec 2020.

I think they are letting people move them to next year so they can sit on the cash, rather than refund.

I had an email from them offering this on 22 May and we were due to go 16 July. So 8 weeks before departure.

You would need to quarantine yourself for 2 week when you come back. So a 2 week holiday from work then requires 4 weeks booking off, unless you can work from home

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/05/2020 07:54

I don't think the quarantine rule will last until September to be honest.

Can you move it again? I've moved mine to next year to be on the safe side. I did have to pay an admin fee.

BananaSpanner · 27/05/2020 08:02

Agree, hold out for a few weeks and if you have the option push it back to 2021. Alternatively, you might be able to have a decent holiday by then.

Sageadvice21 · 30/06/2020 15:38

Have you heard anything else from TUI as yet @wingingit987? We are in a similar position but end of September, so will probably be a few more weeks before we hear anything.

MinesaPinot · 30/06/2020 17:15

We're due to go to one of the Greek islands with Tui at the end of August. We paid in full when we booked last year. I had a look at their website which said that for departures between 1-31August we should be notified by 10 July as to what was happening. I suspect we will not be going.
