USA deaths from CV have gone over 100k. I’m surprised it’s not being widely reported. What an awful milestone!

The figures are fudged. Even people dying of gunshot wounds are being marked down as covid.

What would be gained by recording deaths as covid when they aren't though?

Whilst we all know Trump is desperate to come first in everything, I doubt this. Even in the UK, overall deaths are almost twice as high as the five year average. Not all of these are put down as Covid on the death certificate but all are caused by Covid (either directly or indirectly as a consequence of lockdown). I've no idea what the US equivalent of the ONS is, but I suspect it would show the same picture.

exactly, countries that are fudging the figures will be downplaying

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/05/2020 17:42

The situation in Brazil is also pretty concerning. I think they will overtake us on deaths soon. Their president is in total denial that the virus is serious.

in total denial that the virus is serious
I suppose if you are the head of a country with little or no health/social safely net you might as well just try and gaslight all your subjects and see if it sticks?
That applies to the USA too doesnt it:(

It is the Republicans plundering this nonsense, because they thing it is a Democratic hoax to make Trump look bad.

borninastorm · 26/05/2020 17:50

It’s at over 100,000 now, it’s going to get a lot worse.
It’s now hit the mid-west and rural areas. Several meat processing plants in these rural areas have had outbreaks, as have prisons. Then staff and workers have taken the virus home and it’s spread within these small communities where hospitals are few and far between.
The article I read, I think it was in the Washington Post but I’m not certain, said because these small towns aren’t hotspots they can’t get PPE or even testing. If they do get testing it can take 5 days to get the results.

B1rdbra1n · 26/05/2020 17:53

because they think it is a Democratic hoax to make Trump look bad
but how does that work then?
surely this is an opportunity for Trump to show what a great leader he is, to steer the USA confidently and calmly through these troubled waters.
Selflessly and tirelessly putting his country first, showing how great America can be.
Surely a good strong leader would welcome a challenge like this?
