I've booked him in for a test later today. We were supposed to be seeing GP today but obv won't do that. Obv we have to isolate now until the results. We have a dog and no one to walk it. Can I get up at 5am and walk in rural fields then?

GP being grandparent, not doctor. Tho maybe we should drive there and move in 🙄

You shouldn’t, and RSPCA and others have published advice on how to keep your dog happy indoors (tire them out with brain games)

And 5am is when I (used to) go out for ‘safe’ exercise (I’m exceptionally shield vulnerable)

Here's the issue now, isn't it? Technically, no. But you can probably follow your instincts as a responsible dog owner without any guilt now.

I'm shielded and awaiting corona results but took my dog out today. I would never put others at risk and don't pass anyone or touch anything and abided by the rules totally throughout but today was my little fuck you to boris.

So you didn’t follow the rules for shielding but feel okay to judge others who are making their own risk assessment. Pot and kettle. Lots of ways adults who are shielding at home can get exercise.

Dog would be utterly bemused, is a lazy worst who doesn't get up before 10 usually 😆

I don't know, OP. Act legally, responsibly and with integrity and follow your instincts as any dog owner would.

It's fine to walk if you really aren't going to see anyone - maybe wear gloves for opening gates or something if you want to really be on the safe side.

Why would wearing gloves help? If you’ve washed your hands that’s exactly the same. Wearing a fresh set of gloves immediately after you’ve touched something if you couldn’t wash your hands would be the only reason to wear gloves.

Yes, I know I should have been totally on my own premises the whole time. But in consultation with my own consultant and another doctor working on COVID and in light of my own circumstances and the (perceived) public behaviour at the time; then I had medical clearance to go out in limited ways with precautions

That is of course now back on hold until there’s more of an idea about how people, who previously would not have dreamed of going out when their household was in isolation because someone had symptoms, are going to use their individual judgement instead
