.....how come people are not up in arms about this? It has been briefly mentioned in the news but not picked up like the Cummings story. I think it was in last couple of weeks. I don’t care and think it is fine. One little pod to another little pod and I thought the idea of not being allowed to go to second homes was a bit tough. Especially as it would reduce population in cities so make more room for those with no ‘country’ option (most of us).

Also Boris Johnson went to Chequers to recuperate from his Covid not no 10 and no one seemed to think that was a problem.

They went well before lockdown and have been there throughout, so I don’t see what your issue is with them

IpanemaGallina · 25/05/2020 12:26

There is no issue with them, it’s just posters trying to deflect. Pathetic.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 25/05/2020 12:28

Literally don’t give a shit

If I’m honest if i knew Cummings had done what he did I’d probably just thought ‘what a twat’

Its the hypocrisy, and lying which I can’t stand

And some of the mps jumping in to defend him by gaslighting and insulting the rest of us

wonderstuff · 25/05/2020 12:30

They aren't writing policy. Its reasonable to scatter the heirs to the throne in different parts of the country. They didn't lie about it. They weren't travelling with symptoms.

2468whodoyouappreciate · 25/05/2020 12:31

I'm pretty sure they went before lockdown.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/05/2020 12:36

I'm not thrilled by the various members of the royal family and other vapid celebrities decamping to the countryside. I think the reason people aren't too het up is:

  1. I don't think any did it during lockdown.
  2. They don't make the rules.
  3. People are used to celebs, particularly the RF, not behaving in the way they preach others should.

I think (and I acknowledge that I may well be wrong about it!) that there was some commentary about needing less staff in Norfolk, and being better able to manage the children there. I know, that is still hard on those who don't have a country pad to retreat to and are stuck in an apartment. But if you had the option and could go before lockdown, where you had more space and outdoors for exercise, and also where there is less spread (being outdoors I mean, I've no idea about London v Norfolk on occurrence) - wouldn't you?

Imagine trying to do all those zoom calls to encourage people, but in a smaller residence with the children running in and out more. When instead they have lots of space to be busy doing their schoolwork or enjoying tv programme or playing football in the garden.....happily busy and engaged, while you get on with your other important work.

And that's quite apart from the 2 heirs to the throne needing to stay as safe as possible in general.

They appear to have stayed there, not coming back to London since. And not gone gadding about for nice walks to lovely castles or similar. So effectively, obeyed the rules once they came into effect...which happened to have been made by the very person who then didn't obey them himself...

steppemum · 25/05/2020 12:40

They went before lockdown
They weren't infected with Corona
They wont have stopped for petrol, a fag, a coffee/packet of crisps/M&m's at the garage
They didn't lie about it

^ this 100%.

Lots of people moved the weekend before lockdown. Thousands of students for example came home to the family home from their student houses/hall of residence.

AlandAnna · 25/05/2020 12:45

Boris went straight to Chequers from hospital didn’t he? And he was no longer infectious.

BabyComeBacks · 25/05/2020 12:47

I assume they were not symptomatic when they moved there

iVampire · 25/05/2020 12:50

I thought they decamped as soon as the school closed which was just before the total ban on moving to your other home?

GabsAlot · 25/05/2020 12:50

before lockdown and i dont think they used the train from kings cross to get there

lottiegarbanzo · 25/05/2020 12:59

Did they cram their children into a car with someone actively suffering from covid, for the journey?

Go for the purpose of mixing households, via a small child, with some over-70s?

Stop along the way for fuel and loo breaks while actively infectious?

So your comparison is what, exactly?

ArriettyJones · 25/05/2020 13:01

how come people are not up in arms about this?.....I think it was in last couple of weeks. I don’t care and think it is fine...

LMAO, as we used to say.

You don’t care but will we please all for the for you? Grin

No. No we won’t Smile

ArriettyJones · 25/05/2020 13:02

FROTH for you^ 😉

MRex · 25/05/2020 13:09

I think they should have always explicitly allowed people to stay at second homes or combining households in a family home if they wished, it's their own homes after all. It has encouraged the antipathy from some parts of the country towards any visitors; justified when someone drives hundreds of miles and poos in a garden, but really not when someone drives from the next town over for a countryside walk. I also think hospital services should usually be scaled to any possible peak demand though, and appreciate some areas might feel strained. The main issue here is someone travelling when they know their household had symptoms; service station stops or vehicle emergencies will automatically then put others at risk, and that isn't something a decent person would do.

eurochick · 25/05/2020 13:18

Can you imagine the outcry if Wills and Kate, whilst symptomatic, went to stay with Charles or the Queen?

Barbie222 · 25/05/2020 13:58

They went before lockdown and as far as I know have been there since. With 2 direct heirs to the throne it would have been a bit odd for them to stay in London.

Aragog · 25/05/2020 13:59

I think it was in last couple of weeks.

They went just before lockdown, not a couple of weeks ago.

Re BJ: I mean, he's not my family person and I'm no Tory, but the circumstances were somewhat different. He was released from hospital to go to his home. The Downing Street address is his work place, as well as having a residence there.
