No. Far too many of his MPs have ducked down and kept quiet, not because they think Cummings was right, but purely for their own selfish reasons.

I think if the tabloids manage to prove he went for his day trip out or the police decide to prosecute him , they both may have to go

Not a chance. Johnson won the general election five months ago with a hugec majority, and many Tory MPs in the Midlands & North would not have won their seats under any other leader. They owe their careers to him.

In the past, the Tory party has brutally knifed leaders who have become electoral liabilities, but Johnson isn’t anywhere near that position.

I disagree it will blow over. Regardless of speculation about his son, it was no more of a safeguarding issue for him than for many, many other families around the country who struggled on while maintaining the lockdown rules. DC actually had family members living within a couple of miles of him that he could have called on, which is more than many of the rest of us have.

Boris Johnson's words at the press conference have actually succeeded in making the situation worse, which is remarkable even for him.

He will survive as PM because nobody else wants the responsibility of Brexit + pandemic. Hopefully it will damage his credibility long-term (although to many of us it was baffling that he had any credibility to start with, so maybe not). IMO the most likely scenario is that he will not be forced out but he will step down at some point before the end of his term. He signed up for the adulation of the Brexiters, not for all this hard work. It's possible he may have longer-term health effects which would give him an excuse.

It’s nothing to do with being a ‘leftie’. I’m certainly not but I’m still appalled and disgusted by the lying, arrogance and institutional cover up. Sometimes these things do bring governments down (think Watergate) but it’s rare. I think BoJo will have a tough job getting everybody back bought in to his rules though.

I think it's a bit like the owner Ratners jewellers who called his own products "crap". He effectively insulted his customers taste and sales slumped, causing lasting damage.

Boris has equally insulted the electorate by asking them to follow rules then lying about those same rules to defend Cummings. I can't imagine many will forgive or forget that easily.

We'll find out how important the rules were now, when so many people stop following them becuas of this. If that leads to an even higher death rate, I know he'll argue that it was because "we" didn't do as we were told but I don't think he'll get away with that now. But no, not going anywhere this week.

I am genuinely gob-smacked at those defending DC and furious when callers to LBC radio station say "the public don't care" I do care, and feel that DC is using the childcare issue as an excuse he thought up when he found out the story was going to be published.
Government advice was very clear. If you are displaying symptoms STAY AT HOME. I think it is the height of selfishness to be in that position and then undertake a 260 mile journey to another part of the country on the relatively small chance both parents would be too incapacitated to look after their child.

We're told it was a safeguarding issue but nobody has explained satisfactorily why it was a safeguarding issue for DC but not for the thousands of other parents who have had to look after children whilst struggling with the virus. "Do as I say not as I do" does not sit well with most people.

Of course he won't resign.
