Dominic Cummings using his child's autism as an excuse

Almahart · 25/05/2020 04:01

So it looks as if the next excuse to be wheeled out is that Dominic Cumming's child is autistic.

My child is autistic. I know many families with autistic children.

This is what I have heard of happening for these families during Coronavirus:

  • no school (yes I know schools should be taking vulnerable children. But many are not)
  • no respite
  • no transport to school even if they are open
  • regular activities cancelled
  • the fear that provision provided by local authorities through Education Health and Care Plans and suspended under the Coronavirus Act will slowly disappear

I know of many single parents alone with their child who are seriously struggling and who did not break the rules during lockdown.

To use autism as an excuse is beyond low. It is revolting and has made me even angrier than I was before

Oh maaaaan

I'm off to pour another wine

I really should say away from these threads

Ulver · 25/05/2020 15:13

Tomorrowsanewday

So you don’t mind Boris and Cummings lying about the police advice and lying About what the rules were at the time of Cummings journey but you are enraged by an anon post on mumsnet?
You really have your Priorities screwed.

Lockdown will become unenforceable without public trust in the govt and police.
If and when there is a second wave govt advice will be seen as irrelevant.

Aridane · 25/05/2020 15:13

@Healthyandhappy

What a spectacularly vile and cruel comment to make to @healthyand happy, trying to do her best for both children. I won’t quote your post as my post will get deleted doubtless form”quoting a deleted post” once your cunty post has been deleted

PestymcPestFace · 25/05/2020 15:14

I have two autistic DC the government published their full details on the Internet.

Ignore the evidence of your eyes and ears, we will be told the truth.

squeaver · 25/05/2020 15:15

You should all read this thread which provides the real story behind it being "all over Twitter".

In short, someone thought they heard something which they didn't.

Now, DC may still say something but this is the background.

wherestheotherone · 25/05/2020 15:17

My daughter is ASD (5) and I've been at home with her while working full-time for 11 weeks! We had what we think was Covid to the point me and dh we're in bed really ill and dd was also really unwell for some of it. We just got on with it. It was hell, one of the hardest times we've had but. We've stayed at home. Not travelled and managed her as best we could. I'm disgusted by him and what he's done. Thousands of us stayed in flats, small houses without any help because that was what was asked of us. What safeguarding concerns. He had family in London. In the highly unlikely event that both him and his wife were so ill as to need hospital then their child could have been given to a friend or family member. No excuses.

Aridane · 25/05/2020 15:21

@Mirinska - an imaginative but ultimately risible defence of the indefensible

Tomorrowsanewday · 25/05/2020 15:25

@ButteryPuffin if you feel Mary Wakefield is lying call her out on it. I am calling the OP out. Whataboutery is frowned upon on MN.
@Ulver

I’m commenting on this thread. I don’t have to explain my view on Boris or Cummings to you. If I want to state my views I will.
That ok with you?

There is an on-going investigation. He should be speaking to the police not the press. durham-pcc.gov.uk/News-and-Events/News-Archive/2020/April-June/Additional-statement-Visit-to-Durham-by-Dominic-Cummings-during-lockdown.aspx…

Now an unelected paid political advisor will become the first to make a Press conference announcement in British history
He will no doubt attempt to make light of 54,000 deaths his strategy caused.
Boris has fully abdicated authority

Adam Boulton just read an excerpt from the Code of Conduct for govt advisors ... public statements not permitted.

Once again, it's one rule for Cummings ...

What's the constitutional status of a man on the taxpayer's payroll in Downing St giving a press conference? On whose behalf will he be answering questions? If he lies what standards body will hold him to account?

@Tomorrowsanewday I'm also stating my views and will continue to do so, whether or not it's all right with you. They include the view that your question was hectoring and facile.

Whataboutery is frowned upon on MN.
Grin Grin
Been here too long to be told that! But nice try.

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 25/05/2020 15:35

Do we know what time the little weasel is due on?

DaisyLavender · 25/05/2020 15:39

@Larkspurandhollyhocks 4pm

Tomorrowsanewday · 25/05/2020 15:43

@ButteryPuffin, where have I stated I have a problem with you posting?
You asked me about Mary Wakefield and I replied. Not sure where you get the impression I’m saying you’re not entitled to post Confused.
Whataboutery is still whataboutery. Some things never change no matter how long you’ve been on MN Grin.

Ulver · 25/05/2020 15:50

Tomorrowsanewday

Bringing the police into disrepute by lying and contradicting their official statement In the middle of a national crisis is not a good look.
He is undermining public confidence in the police and govt.
Do you really want to see riot, looting and widespread flouting of lockdown the over the summer?
That is what happens when the police are undermined and prevented from effective policing and govt are shown to have contempt for the law.

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 25/05/2020 16:12

Wonder if hes late because he can't decide what tracksuit gives off a well meaning father vibe

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 25/05/2020 16:15

I'm preparing my blood pressure for this

JamieLeeCurtains · 25/05/2020 16:20

So the family contacted Durham police not about coronavirus, but because they feel special and wanted special treatment.

And the Domnishambles is hastily rewriting his statement ...

SabrinaTheTeenageBitch · 25/05/2020 16:22

Imagine being late for your own apology. Absolute contempt the grubby little shit

Ulver · 25/05/2020 16:25

On the news now a Cumming supporter saying “you can’t allow to be seen to allow critics to win”
Wow that’s their line of reasoning?

C8H10N4O2 · 25/05/2020 16:50

This is an orgy of "I'm sorry IF you are offended" - Laura Kuennsberg just handed him a get out of jail free form of apology and he can't bring himself to take it.

GreenTeaMug · 25/05/2020 16:53

Peston is trying to pin him down which makes me think he knows something else.

Such detail was given.

GreenTeaMug · 25/05/2020 16:53

Up until the Barnard castle bollocks I was thinking it was plausible.

HarrietM87 · 25/05/2020 16:54

Oh come on @Didkdt of course I don’t know it for a fact, but it IS a fact that DC had it. Re the journalists, I’d make the assumption on the basis that (a) most people (unlike DC) are actually smart enough to follow the very clear rules, (b) why would they bother coming to work when ill- the majority are employees and would get sick pay, (c) there is absolutely no suggestion that any of them have it.

And even if they all did, DC’s behaviour is still worse because he occupies a very different position - he was literally involved in developing the government messaging, policy and strategy on this. Like it or not he has a greater responsibility than “ordinary” citizens, even though he is unelected.

C8H10N4O2 · 25/05/2020 16:55

Peston is trying to pin him down which makes me think he knows something else

Possibly. This story has not been closed by this press conference - too many people have stuck to the spirit of the isolation guidelines in the interest of their fellows and suffered greatly as a result.

Sertchgi123 · 25/05/2020 16:56

I don't think Cummings has anything to apologise for. He was clearly protecting his family unit. He didn't come into contact with anyone else, I just wish the press would STFU about it.
