What strings has Cummings pulled? He's NOT trending on

It's clear that everybody is talking about Cummings - the words Durham and #dominicgoings are trending on Twitter for example.

But his name isn't.

What strings has he pulled to remove his name?

Is this something everyone can do or only those with influence?

Either way AIBU it's further proof Cummings needs to go, if it turns out he's tried to bury this story?

Suppressing a story on social media is an important aspect in my opinion as it has ramifications for democracy.

If Cummings is using his position and influence to try to cover his tracks that's unethical.

I think it's because, fortunately for him, his surname has connotations that means it gets blocked by Twitter filters. Or so I read.

I stated a new thread because I couldn't see one on this aspect and I think there are ramifications that go beyond Cummings and coronavirus.

If twitter are indeed allowing government figures (and unelected ones at that) to censor the news on their platform that has implications for democracy and free speech.

It's yet another low in this shit show of a self-interested government's antics. Unsurprising but disappointing nevertheless.

The blip in the Twitter algorithm along with the blatant BBC bias is the most worrying aspect of this whole debacle. Worrying times ahead I fear.

He’s a conniving piece of shit who sees himself as a respected partner of and collaborator with ‘big tech’. Nothing about him would surprise me. It’ll take a while to uncover just what kind of destructive role he’s played in the UK’s atrocious handling of the pandemic, with Boris Johnson as useless figurehead. But it will come out eventually.

Apparently those in the know can manipulate the system to avoid certain words triggering the algorithm to trend on Twitter. Putting imgs instead of ings confuses the system and gets the hashtag trending.

And twitter shows #DominicCummngs is trending now, but still not the real spelling. He's definitely suppressed it somehow.

I imagine he would have suppressed his name quite early in the game, hoping to contain the news. But now it's such a massive story there's no point. Plus it's be hard to keep up with all the new hashtags, people are incentive.

I usually avoid anything with a whiff of 'conspiracy theory' but there's no doubt about it, twitter has been manipulated in some way to prevent his name trending - the closest they've got so far seems to be #DominicCummngs
