DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

There's no hope of him going then if they've all rallied round and the AG has defended him.

Perhaps we could use this to our advantage and keep screen shots for when we come down with it and travel to the coast for fresh air/ travel to parents for childcare/

Jeremy Corbyn visited the Chinese community in Manchester for a photo opportunity in February - a show of solidarity because Manchester is twinned with Wuhan - he could be a super-spreader for all we know

Seriously? You're still on Jeremy Corbyn?? Talk about desperation, wtaf.

Yes, for all we know Corbyn had bubonic plague and leprosy. We do know that CUMMINGS WIFE HAD THE VIRUS and therefore he was putting others at an unacceptable risk by travelling. Fucks sake!

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 15:21

Still - we had Boris Johnson shaking hands with people.

Yes, but here is Angela Merkel the day before he said that -

www.itv.com/news/2020-03-02/angela-merkel-handshake-rejected-as-coronavirus-cases-reach-150-in-germany/

And the Dutch PM a week later -

MissMatchedClaws · 23/05/2020 15:21

And the next bit of the independent article repeats what DR harries said next. Which was NOT ‘feel free to travel wherever you like to be with your family, but to look to their local authority hubs.

“During the daily press conference on 24 March, Dr Harries outlined how parents may be able to access childcare support if they are unable to look after their children.

“If the individuals do not have access to care support, formal care support or to family, they will be able to work through their local authority hubs,” the deputy chief medical officer for England said.”

iVampire · 23/05/2020 15:21

Press seem to have known about this for some time

Why’s the story breaking today?

What else are we not meant to be noticing ?

BiggerBoat1 · 23/05/2020 15:21

If he doesn't go it will be a scandal. It is indefensible and anyone who supports him will show themselves to be spineless and morally corrupt.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 15:21

Great point about Rishi and Sajid. And remembering that makes what they did re the transport grant (making SJ the scapegoat for being forced to raise income from congestion charge) even worse. They literally threw him to the wolves as payback for having a conscience.

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 15:22

What else are we not meant to be noticing ?

Presumably to divert attention away from track and trace, and the school debate.

FliesandPies · 23/05/2020 15:22

*There's no hope of him going then if they've all rallied round and the AG has defended him.

We mustn't accept that. If we continue to accept all their lies and wrongdoings the country is finished.

rhubarbfizzy · 23/05/2020 15:23

I am in tears about this. Never thought I would be.

I have spent the most appalling 9x7 = 63 days holed up in a flat, a family of 5, unable to go to elderly parents, to seek help, getting a deadly virus, told to go nowhere, not to seek help from our GP, not to use our private healthcare to get covid treatment. No car. Told to treat selves at home BUT no food deliveries slots. Could not even get paracetamol. It has been beyond appalling. We are in tears not seeing grandparents. My elderly uncle who lives alone HAS NOT SEEN ANYONE for 63 days. Sad

And yet, top government get to go to the grandparents ?!?!?! for help. When did we get told that massive, massive help was possible. Travel from London to another house ?!?!?! That would have been life-saving for us.

The royal family gets to go to Windsor, Scotland, Norfolk, the pm to Chequers but no - you ordinary mum, you stay in your inner-city flat, with DH and DC and no deliveries, no medicine, no GP, do not go to hospital either, do not expect to get your ordinary medical care or your private medical care or your dentist for toothache. Sad and you are forbidden to go to grandparents or your house in the country.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 15:24

I protected the nhs by not going out following rules etc etc etc.
I don't expect a medal, but he didn't protect anyone but himself and spread the virus around. That is bad!

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 23/05/2020 15:25

Ah, Clavinova, god loves a trier.
Your tenacity to defend the indefensible would be admirable if it wasn't so misguided.

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 15:25

You're still on Jeremy Corbyn??

Well, it certainly shows that the Labour Party were not ahead of the curve, despite people claiming they would have planned a better response.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 15:25

I think there are going to be a lot of journalists tonight talking about the stories of people who haven't done what Cummings did.

I can guarantee that Piers Morgan will have people like that on GMB

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2020 15:25

Ooh I was wondering how long it would take for the 'but what about Corbyn, Merkel' to appear.

Not long it seems

So back to Cummings

madroid · 23/05/2020 15:26

www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-dilemma-at-the-heart-of-the-cummings-controversy

I used to respect Robert Peston as a journalist.

This has really upset me too. I've now lost the last thread of belief that this govt has got a handle on the pandemic.

It's every man for himself now...

iVampire · 23/05/2020 15:26

@GrimmsFairytales

I thought it might be the unpreparedness of test/track/trace as well

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 15:26

Clavinova Do you think what Cummings did was wrong?

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 15:26

And yet, top government get to go to the grandparents ?!?!?! for help.

Did the grandparents help? I thought it was his sister and niece?

QuestionMarkNow · 23/05/2020 15:27

Let me get that right.

He LEFT his wife on her own whilst she was ill with covid, even though he thought he might have caught it himself? And he went away closer to HIS family (is that the family near Durham too?), 250 miles away from her?

Wow.
Just that is a massive red flag.

As for not following the guidleines and basically telling people he went away knowing he probably had it.....
One rule for the pleb and one rule for the masters isnt it

florriepeck · 23/05/2020 15:27

Didn't feel too ill to drive 260 miles.

itsgettingweird · 23/05/2020 15:29

So it's fair game that NHs and care staff loved in sheds and camped in gardens because they'd been exposed to CV.
But DOminic Cuntings had to travel 260 miles?

If he was concerned about catching it he should have isolated away in the house like the rest of us mere mortals.

Glowcat · 23/05/2020 15:30

’As for Cummings: a truly odious piece of shit, quite frankly.’

This. He could be filmed shitting on the Cenotaph whist humming songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals and it couldn’t lower my opinion of him.

QuestionMarkNow · 23/05/2020 15:31

Hold on... he went to Durham with his wife when she was ill?

He basically flounted all the rules?
And had no issues with risking spreading the disease just because it was easier for him?
And his dsister didnt come to his house or help so basicaly he still had to dad and look after the dcs, something he could have done at home?

How does he think everyone else coped?? AngryAngry

ZaZathecat · 23/05/2020 15:31
