DS statement on Cummings is shameful

Basically I am sceptical about how terrible this could be to get for all of us - the mild illness stuff has been dropped as not helpful to the general lock us all up thing.

Regardless as a law abiding person I've stuck to the rules.

Which I thought meant you had to self isolate if you had symptoms and no, you couldn't go somewhere easier. If you had kids you all stayed in together, relied on deliveries or the local council support schemes and 111 if it was bad.

So I'm sickened by the knot tying in getting Cummings off the hook.

Suella Braverman MP
@SuellaBraverman
Protecting one’s family is what any good parent does. The @10DowningStreet
statement clarifies the situation and it is wholly inappropriate to politicise it

She is the Attorney General.

Tavannach · 23/05/2020 15:04

he didn't travel for pleasure and he only made one journey.

And with that one journey he carried the virus 250 miles to a different community. The point of social isolation is to contain the virus so that it doesn't spread. That's "The Science". Dominic Cummings sits on the SAGE committee and advises the Government to ensure that we follow "The Science".

DC clearly belives, as Boris does, that the rules don't apply to them. Because they're special.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 15:05

A small child clearly is a vulnerable individual, so in this case, although we are encouraging everybody to stay in their own households–that’s the unit with the same risk of exposure–clearly if you have adults who are unable to look after a small child, that is an exceptional circumstance

Agreed it is difficult.

Is a 250 mile drive the only alternative then?
Whilst ill?

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2020 15:06

I always thought that Dr Jenny Harries is in someone's pocket! She can defend this behaviour? I'm exploding inside!

BlueRaincoat1 · 23/05/2020 15:07

Suella Braverman's tweet is so disgraceful I might burst a blood vessel.

LemonyCupcake · 23/05/2020 15:07

@BlueRaincoat1 totally totally agree

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 15:07

Cummings child was born after the referendum.

Ok - unfortunately I can't read your link - behind a paywall.

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 15:08

I always thought that Dr Jenny Harries is in someone's pocket! She can defend this behaviour?

She said that in March.

millymae · 23/05/2020 15:08

My family has followed all the advice given by the government to the letter but I’m fast coming to the conclusion that there has been one rule for us mere mortals and another for those we elected to represent us. Somehow we have ended up with an absent Prime Minister who with one or two exceptions has surrounded himself with a bunch of arrogant sycophantic ministers and aides who think that by virtue of their position they can be economical with the truth and ignore the advice they have given to the country
I now tune into the daily press conference purely in the hope that Piers Morgan or Andrew Neil will pop up with a question. Today would be the perfect time as whilst they might not be everyone’s cup of tea they both have the balls to ask uncomfortable questions and more importantly are not prepared to accept responses that bear no relevance to the question.

JudyCoolibar · 23/05/2020 15:08

he didn't travel for pleasure and he only made one journey.

There's no exception to the rules that says you're allowed to travel if you didn't enjoy it. Likewise the virus makes no distinction between people who spread it by travelling for pleasure and travelling 250 miles to make your sister act as a free nanny.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 15:09

Clav
Ha ha ha
no its not
its by Mrs Cummings
as well you know

stop defending the indefensible

LemonyCupcake · 23/05/2020 15:10

Jenny Harries - absolutely unbelievable

Telling partners to basically suck it up at the beginning of this lockdown crap and now she is defending Cummings dragging his lurgy across the country

merrymouse · 23/05/2020 15:10

if his wife is ill then he doesn't have time to be the child care provider.

But apparently he did have time for a 5 hour trip to Durham, sharing a confined space with his wife so that it was almost inevitable that he would get the virus.

This tweet from Robert Peston re: information from a 'senior Tory' is interesting.

SuellaBraverman - Protecting one’s family is what any good parent does. The @10DowningStreet statement clarifies the situation and it is wholly inappropriate to politicise it

That is so shameful. Is there anyone involved in this government who isn't a corrupted arsehole?

FuckThisWind · 23/05/2020 15:11

Signed the petition. Sick to the back teeth of the Tories repeatedly getting away with everything. Different rules for them.

I genuinely don't understand how some people still don't see how despicable they are. And would defend them of anything. It's like the Emperors Bloody New Clothes.

merrymouse · 23/05/2020 15:11

Protecting one’s family is what any good parent does.

He didn't travel to protect his family, he travelled to use his family.

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 15:12

Is there anyone involved in this government who isn't a corrupted arsehole?

Errm.....

Tumbleweed....

Clavinova · 23/05/2020 15:15

And with that one journey he carried the virus 250 miles to a different community

We are told he was in isolation in a separate building.

Jeremy Corbyn visited the Chinese community in Manchester for a photo opportunity in February - a show of solidarity because Manchester is twinned with Wuhan - he could be a super-spreader for all we know - having travelled to Bristol and elsewhere afterwards.

Wonkydonkey44 · 23/05/2020 15:15

He’s a twat, twisting the words of lockdown to his own means.

longwayoff · 23/05/2020 15:15

I'm thrilled to note Matt Hancock has recovered the power of speech, he'll be needing that when carrying the can for this lot. He can make the 'spend more time with my family' excuse as Cummings boots him out of Downing Street hoping to keep the worst blame away from Bozza. Why are people attempting to justify DC behaviour? He does what he wants and neither apologises nor explains. He's a selfish person who works to his own agenda and our opinions of him concern him not one jot. He's very, very special. Him and his friends and family. Extra special. The rest of us can whistle.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 15:16

One guaranteed way to get Covid 19 is to sit in a car for 4 -5 hours with someone who has the disease.

Someone who sat in the Sage meetings should get that.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 15:17

Still - we had Boris Johnson shaking hands with people.
Clearly, people like Johnson, Trump and Cummings, they think the rules don't apply to them

GrimmsFairytales · 23/05/2020 15:17

Jeremy Corbyn visited the Chinese community in Manchester for a photo opportunity in February

Lockdown began on 23rd March. You can't honestly compare the 2. Confused

PerkingFaintly · 23/05/2020 15:18

Well indeed, DemolitionBarbie.

Man who has consistently behaved as though he is above the law, in "behaves as though he is above the law" shocker.
Hmm

Mrsmadevans · 23/05/2020 15:18

He has to go , no two ways about it.
