Hi everyone,

We moved to Canada 10 years ago and had planned a trip to the UK for this coming October for my brother-in-law's wedding. I need to renew passports and a permanent resident card before then.

What do you think the chances are that the wedding will actually go ahead??

Where is the wedding taking place? Different parts of the UK are unlocking at different rates.

If in Scotland, the wedding should be able to take place by then but it’s anyone’s guess how many guests will be able to attend or whether there will be any kind of reception.

It's in the Midlands. I just don't know what to do. If we don't get the ball rolling on passport renewals and, more importantly, permanent resident card renewal, we'll be out of time even if the wedding goes ahead.

I keep thinking that if the second wave comes like experts are predicting, we may be back in the thick of it by October.

Wouldn’t you want to have those documents in place regardless?? I can’t see why you’d wait for the paperwork, look at it from that perspective. I’d imagine wedding could go ahead but with smaller guest list by then

The PR card I could sort now and will because i can't allow it to elapse. My daughter is the one who needs the passport but passport services are not available right now due to Covid.
