Are these people suicidal or something?

I’m fairly laid back about the new travel rules, but a bit stunned by this photo on bbc website.
I was aware people were getting out and about in the sunshine recently and wondered why so much fuss, until I saw this.

I wouldn’t risk this. Maybe they thin k it’s either all over or fake news.

Southend i think.

Are these people suicidal or something?
OP posts:
Weepinggreenwillow · 23/05/2020 07:46

well, lets hope if any of them were feeling suicidal, getitng out in the sun and seeing other human beings has helped their mental health enough to get them through another day.
Suicide is not something to joke about. A lot of people are feeling suicidal right now. Some have tragically already taken their own lives.
If you were trying to imply that by going to the beach they were all going to get COVID 19 and die then you are clearly very misinformed on how this disease actually works, and the risks are minimal to probably most the people in that picture, as has been pointed out to you.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 23/05/2020 07:50

Probably not suicidal but terminally stupid and self absorbed... unless not one of those idiots has a friend or relative over 70 .. or with a health condition. In which case they will kill people by their ignorance.

SnuggyBuggy · 23/05/2020 07:50

It looks a bit crowded for my tastes but each to his own. The risk is low and life is for living. The lockdown has gone on too long.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 23/05/2020 07:51

A viral pandemic doesn't 'get cured' because people are bored.

R2519 · 23/05/2020 08:12

I blame the government to be honest. Compltely inept and incompetent. Other countries introduced a hard lockdown. Demanded people stay at home and fined them heavily of they didn't. Even put some units of the military out to police it. What did we do.....asked nicely and thanked people for obeying the lockdown when it was clear some weren't. Not once did I hear anyone from the government address the idiots in their briefings nor put in harder measures. This will likely bite us in the ass. I hate this like most do but its not forever and I've resigned myself to accepting no holidays for this year etc. When you still have idiots, including some on here, asking whether their trip to Cornwall will be cancelled. FFS. Why the government couldn't grow a spine and deal with this properly ie beyond me. I'm just glad that this is a relatively mild pandemic.....imagine if this virus was more deadly! Doesnt bear thinking about how they would have handled it!

R2519 · 23/05/2020 08:14

*to caveat, before I get ridiculed. I'm not suggesting the loss of life is mild, far from it. What I am saying is if this virus was more deadly. Something like the Spanish Flu then we would be in deep trouble.

userxx · 23/05/2020 08:16

They don't look suicidal to me 🤷‍♂️

Bluntness100 · 23/05/2020 08:18

“Suicidal” would indicate you don’t really comprehend the fatality rate of the disease. It’s likely 0.05 percent and it’s heavily skewed to the over 65s and those with underlying health conditions. Even then it’s a 90 percent t chance of survival. For the overwhelming majority of people it is very mild and the majority don’t even have symptoms.

It’s up to everyone to take personal responsibility in social distancing, particularly if you’re vulnerable.

So no these people would not be considered suicidal

Bluntness100 · 23/05/2020 08:20

unless not one of those idiots has a friend or relative over 70 .. or with a health condition. In which case they will kill people by their ignorance

Eh what now? People over seventy or with health conditions are generally capable of being able to social distance. Unless other factors they are capable of taking responsibility for themselves. It’s called having capacity. And simply because someone is on the beach and may catch it does not mean they would not socially distance from an elderly relative or someone with a health condition.

Your statement makes no sense at all..

Sharpandshineyteeth · 23/05/2020 08:24

You lot are probably the exact same people who moaned about VE Day and said numbers would spike. They haven’t.

They are outside. Some of these people will be working in factories and other places indoors where you are far more likely to catch Covid. So when nice weather comes, the risk to them would seem low. Which is it.

Toilets and other facilities are another matter, I doubt most of them realised till they go there.

Idododoidadada · 23/05/2020 08:42

If they are inside an enclosed campervan, and using their own toilet and kitchen, I’m not sure why it isn’t ok tbh

Because you cannot spend a night anywhere other than your primary residence.

BillywilliamV · 23/05/2020 08:48

Its amazing how many people come across selfish, nasty people breaking the rules, whilst they themselves are just out dropping much needed groceries to some poor old lady and otherwise wouldnt have dreamt of leaving the house.

ifonly4 · 23/05/2020 08:53

Incredibly selfish, they don't care who they risk spreading it to and the implications for someone else. Incredibly selfish, they don't care about the pressures in all those in the health service and mental stress of seeing an increased number of people fighting for their lives/losing their lives. Also, bet they'll be the first ones in the queue for a test and to be seen by a doctor.

KuckFnows · 23/05/2020 08:57

That's right . Blame the government. Again.

They impose a lockdown. Wasn't quick enough. They then demanded an exit strategy, to be treated as " grown ups" and demands of lockdown being eased...

Boris lays out potential plans, all of which are potential and reiterates the use of common sense ...

This is the fucking results of the " grown ups"

But that's right. Blame the government.

Bluntness100 · 23/05/2020 08:58

they don't care who they risk spreading it to and the implications for someone else

Why do people keep posting this nonsense. Like everyone doesn’t have capacity to social distance or take personal responsibility, that it’s up to others to do it for them.

How exactly can someone have it spread it to someone else, unless that someone else is not social distancing?

2468whodoyouappreciate · 23/05/2020 09:00

Fucking he'll. That picture is shocking.
I can't believe that many people are so thick to not understand social distancing? Or Know what 2m is like?

I'm all for getting out and about if you can but always doing what we've been advised.......and that's to social distance.

These people are thick?? Selfish?? Maybe both.

Any decent person would have looked and seen the beach was too busy to safely social distance and gone to a plan B or plan c or back home. But no, these special people just cannot do what they've been told to because I assume their alright Jack and fuck anyone who isn't and a big up yours to NHS frontline workers.

There's no excuse except selfishness and utter stupidity to sit amongst crowds like that.

IncrediblySadToo · 23/05/2020 09:03

@BillywilliamV

its amazing how many people come across selfish, nasty people breaking the rules, whilst they themselves are just out dropping much needed groceries to some poor old lady and otherwise wouldnt have dreamt of leaving the house

Faux amazement. Pathetic.

It's not surprising that people who are out there helping others notice the selfishness & stupidity of others.

Lweji · 23/05/2020 09:10

People outside, not touching the same surfaces or sharing any objects, aren't particularly shocking or suicidal.

Most spread is done indoors in close contact and through shared objects with lack of hand hygiene.

Crowded beaches are not great, but much less dangerous than a crowded pub, factory/office or household.

Musicforsmorks · 23/05/2020 13:19

Someone asked about date phot was taken, it was in yesterday’s article on bbc website about crowds, and the pic was labelled as from ‘wednesday’.

OP posts:
Musicforsmorks · 23/05/2020 13:21

I agree not highest risk but so soon after this peak, it was me, I’d feel somewhat odd doing it.
Just a touch too crowded for me, even under normal circs 😁

OP posts:
Musicforsmorks · 23/05/2020 13:23

And for fucks sake, the suicidal expression is just a figure of speech, do please cool your tits.

OP posts:
daisymay133 · 23/05/2020 13:25

To be fair other countries imposed but harder lockdowns and have much smaller populations and in some like Italy, better ICU capacity yet their death rate is not much lower

Not even comparing some of the Scandinavian countries which are so small you can’t conpare

ILiveInSalemsLot · 23/05/2020 13:57

It really pisses me off that we end up being manipulated by the media and start policing and judging each other.

What if the article focussed on ‘happy Brits enjoying the sun on a beach for the first time in 8 weeks’

They all wanted to get out for a bit, thought they’d head to the beach, didn’t realise that they would be so crowded. It was then their choice to stay or go.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 23/05/2020 14:00

And no, I wasn’t at the beach or any beach, just in case people were thinking I was.
I just get annoyed at the media manipulation of us. It’s bad enough with social media let alone mainstream media.

whitesoxx · 23/05/2020 14:05

"How exactly can someone have it spread it to someone else, unless that someone else is not social distancing?"

@Bluntness100 how many examples would you like? Because I can think of many 🙄
