Do you think nurseries will reopen from the 1st June?

I know that no one knows but I'd be interested to know if lots of other parents are doubtful that children will be able to return to nursery within a fortnight.

I really want DD to be able to return to nursery. She is missing out by not being there and had been benefitting with a noticeable change in her social confidence (for some reason, she's always been wary of other children) and various other elements of development. The longer she's way the further back I expect us to be.

But I just can't quite believe that its going to happen on the 1st of June and that there won't be a change of policy for childcare/schools reopening between now and then.

I'm usually a planner and I find it really hard to make decisions when I don't have definite information to base it on.

Nurseries are reopening on June 1st.
Ours and lots of others have confirmed the arrangements. I'm choosing not to send DS back at the moment.

Got to admit that I am a little concerned that the government advice will change last minute and they will be told they can’t open though as our fees are due on the 1st!

Our have confirmed, there was not ifs or buts mentioned, some social distancing measures put in place for drop offs, and not allowing half days etc.

Childcare is needed to keep the economy going, the government are highly unlikely to change their minds.

Mine has confirmed today that they will reopen on June 8th

There is a nursery setting attached to my DC's primary school. It's due to open on 2 June (I think 1 June is a day for staff to go in and prepare).

Ours has sent a very detailed approach to return on staggered dates and times from June 1. I don’t even know if it’s subject to schools opening too and government decision. I guess so?

Dd isn’t going back until Sept now as she hadn’t settled yet and nursery agreed it would be too hard doing a smooth drop off.

My sons nursery is, and I will be sending him in as the statistics for that age group don't alarm me.

Sorry, I said upthread 2 June but I see it's actually 2 June for the older children (3-4) and 8 June for the little ones.

Ours aren’t opening on the 1st June and neither are the schools in my area, this has just been announced today

There aren't any childcare settings reopening around where I am, they're all staying shut.

Our nursery have said that they are reopening on the 1st June, but with the caveat that it is dependent on government advice. Ie if the government backtrack, they will too.

Ours has emailed this afternoon to say they are hoping to open early July. I'm ashamed to say I shed a few tears. We're both WFH with a 2 and 4 year old. I can't do this for another 6 weeks.

Has your child's nursery not confirmed either way? They should have done, given that it's 10 days away.

My son's nursery is reopening on 1st June, they emailed parents within a few days of the government announcement to ask everyone whether they would be sending their children, and then emailed again this week to confirm they are reopening. They have provided detailed information about the measures they are taking. I am very pleased with their sensible approach. Looking forward to sending DS back. 10 weeks of no nursery is more than enough for him (and us).

Yes they have confirmed and I have replied to let them know that DD will be attending and they have invoiced accordingly (which I will of course be paying) but I’m still finding that I’m reluctant to factor it into my plans for some reason and I think it’s because I’m not convinced that the government won’t change their mind between now and the 1st.

Ah I see. Yes I know what you mean, I have told colleagues that in theory I can work as normal from 1st June (been doing reduced hours while nursery's been closed) but I am slightly worried it won't happen after all! Hopefully it will though. I think it's unlikely the gvt will backtrack if figures continue to fall.

We're the same oysterbabe. And they won't be open full time until the end of the summer so I'm going to have to take whatever hours they can offer me. WFH is going to be horrendous!

The government isn't confirming the 1 June opening until 28 May. Leaving 1 clear working day between then and 1 June. So it doesn't matter what your nursery currently says - it all hinges on that 28 May announcement.

Yes can confirm with @Thelette, the schools and nurseries will have contacted parents with “opening dates” and measurements they are putting in place, this isn’t set in stone the government will confirm if they’re allowed to open on 28th May, but the schools and nurseries will contact parents to see what the numbers etc will be if they do reopen on the 1st.

Yes it’s what TheLette said above - we won’t know for sure until May 28th.

I suspect the government may say it’s the choice of the school/nursery due regional differences. For example, where I live the case number & death toll is exceptionally low. It seems silly not to start to move forwards here.. perhaps in the NE, they may want to proceed more cautiously!
