Childminders reopening

Okay just looking for thoughts on this

Following yesterdays announcement from the first minister, childminders in Scotland will be able to reopen from next week. So you can send your child to a childminder but not see close family? What happens if your childcare is your family?
In my situation my DM is our source of childcare, in this scenario should I start using my DM to look after DD if and when Im busy WFH?

I think you have to make that decision based on your circumstances.

If your mum high risk? Does she live with anyone who is high risk? Have they been soically distancing? Have you? Are your DC/you high risk? Etc. Etc.

There isn't going to be one right answer for everyone.

In terms of contact, it's potentially the same as using a childminder i.e. your child mixing with one other household.

I agree that it depends on the circumstances, such as anyone at either household being high risk and the age of your dd. If she is old enough to entertain herself for an hour or so then ideally you would muddle through without your DM helping with childcare. But if your dd is young and your work is full on I don't see why a childminder would be "allowed" but not your DM.
Our childminder is asthmatic and in her 60s and our ds1is high risk. My ds2 is a toddler and the current work situation is becoming unsustainable whilst keeping him safe. We will be using my DM for childcare so long as both households are isolating completely at all other times. I think this is less risk than using a childminder where different households are mixing.
No doubt people will shout "it's against the rules!" but I think you just do what is best for your individual situation.

In England a childminder can only look after children from one household unless they already have key workers children. Then they can't have anymore children. So there is no mixing of multiple households unless a child minder already has 3+ children which is unlikely.

You can use a parent as childcare, there is an exception in the legislation for this. The guidance was only not to use a grandparent if they were vulnerable.

My son goes to a childminder and she has 3 other children she looks after, as well as having three children of her own.

She has been open for keyworkers ever since the lock down began but as of June 1st she is properly open again.

I have told her that although we are still paying her (and have since lockdown began) we will still be keeping our son at home.

The thought of him being around lots of children who are at an age where they can’t socially distance (all under 3 years old) with no idea who there parents are and whether they’ve been following the guidelines etc etc does not appeal to me.

When I told my CM that we’d be keeping our son at home for now she told me that was the safest thing to do.

If a member if your family is your childcare then I would use them OP. It’s a lot less risky than placing your child/ren in formal childcare settings.
