Nicola Sturgeon has stated she will outline a 4 phase plan to ease lockdown restrictions at the briefing today at 12.30.

Do we think a possible ease on meeting up with 1 other person. Really struggling with lockdown now but i 100% know why we're doing it. Any thoughts?

I don't hate her! I wished she was an English MP or in our cabinet.
I like her a lot.

Sadie789 · 21/05/2020 22:32

@upstar quite the opposite for me, most people I know dislike her and the SNP.

It’s about 50/50 in Scotland, despite what the spin implies.

Cismyfatarse1 · 21/05/2020 22:54

I don't think she has handled things too badly but the scenes in Portobello yesterday suggest that separate release from lockdown has not worked - it has gone on too long with not enough clarity as to why certain things can't happen.

Garden centres?

LoadsaBlusher · 21/05/2020 22:59

I know , I don’t care about going to garden centres , important to me are seeing grandparents / childcare issue for grandparents and school

Also mentioning tennis in Scotland it’s not a huge sport up here , certainly not in our relatively deprived area

I dont know anybody who plays

Feels like why even mention it

Families were completely missed out

Is it because we are never going to get the green light officially to see close family and grandparents before a vaccine so they are just omitting it

Cismyfatarse1 · 21/05/2020 23:08

Seeing people in gardens is good for families etc.

I have never understood closing garden centres but allowing DIY shops to open.

Also, most deaths are in care homes and the handling of that has been woeful. People have died at twice the rate as England in those places.

And as the SQA is a quango they can cover up educational deficiencies by massaging the figures. Education is a scandal.

FedHimtoTigers1990 · 21/05/2020 23:21

I like NS. i know of a lot of people who are saying they weren't a fan before but have surprised themselves by changing over the last few weeks. I'm talking people who were part of the Better Together campaign..

Thank god you're here with your biased anecdotal evidence to put us right. Can't trust actual professional polling like YouGov eh?

yougov.co.uk/topics/health/articles-reports/2020/05/01/three-quarters-approve-scottish-governments-handli

74% of Scots approve of Holyrood's handling of Covid, 71% Approval for NS herself. Also shows SNP to be on course for an unprecedented landslide at Holyrood next year in spite of the De Hondt system essentially being hand-picked by Labour because it supposedly renders outright majorities impossible.

But no, 50/50 and it's all 'spin'. Hmm

Tick-tock. Matter of time before independence. The craven cringe and seethe in here will make it all worthwhile tbh.

Redglitter · 22/05/2020 00:29

i know of a lot of people who are saying they weren't a fan before but have surprised themselves by changing over the last few weeks

I've never liked her but I think shes handling the whole lockdown thing really well. I definitely think shes doing what's best for the country. Itll still be a cold day in hell before I vote for her or her party

Peppafrig · 22/05/2020 02:36

I also think NC is handling this well . Still would never ever ever vote for the SNP.

Sassenach85 · 22/05/2020 05:54

Phase 3 says we can have people in our home but still need to physically distance.... I need my mum for childcare but I feel like it’s never going to be okayed

LoadsaBlusher · 22/05/2020 07:30

Yes I feel the same @Sassenach85

DivGirl · 22/05/2020 07:36

Yeah, I also think she's handling this wonderfully. I will never, ever vote for the SNP. I hate how vile and nasty Scottish politics has become - it's worse than football.

RaaRaaaa · 22/05/2020 11:28

If my child can return to nursery in early July then my child can see their grandparents . That’s my line.

RaaRaaaa · 22/05/2020 11:31

Also after the pandemic is over their must be an investigation into Scottish care homes. The Scottish government are accountable under devolved powers here and any issues with sourcing PPE is their responsibility like it’s Boris for English care homes. The care inspectorate are responsible in Scotland and I sincerely hope a proper investigation is carried out. From memory almost 2/3s of all deaths in Scotland are in care homes. Shameful

RaaRaaaa · 22/05/2020 11:32

Argh why can’t you edit! Sorry for the typos, I’m on my phone

LoadsaBlusher · 22/05/2020 12:21

I’m not an SNP voter but I do respect how well Nicola Sturgeon speaks and how clearly she puts points across.

If she doesn’t know an answer she says so and says she will look into it

I like the way she doesn’t bring party politics into it and spoke well on yesterday’s briefing

It’s not NS I have any issues with , I’m just frustrated with how the stages impact our family

upstar · 22/05/2020 12:55

@RaaRaaaa care homes are a UK scandal. Scotland is measuring these separately but the UK is not and when they start doing this it will be shown how bad it is. The worst part is some of the private companies running these homes across the Uk are a disgrace, paying staff peanuts so they can't afford to take sick leave , minimum training, moving staff across the country and making a profit out of care.

Bellebelle · 22/05/2020 13:12

I don’t understand the posters here and elsewhere making statements such as ‘if my child can go to school they can see their Grandparents.’

Acknowledging that you don’t have to be over 70 to be a grandparent the vast majority are and they’re at a much higher risk of becoming seriously ill or dying from coronavirus.

Some people seem to miss the point that this is all about risk, we’re allowed to do more outside because there’s less risk of transmitting the virus outdoors.

It’s expected that it will be okay for children to partially return to school because children have a very low risk of getting seriously ill from the virus and with social distancing and limited time in school the risk of them or school staff getting it is reduced.

Eventually we’ll be able to spend time indoors with people from other households but only once the R number is low enough to make it an acceptable risk.

These decisions are being made based on science, not because the Government think it’s more important for kids to be back in school than to see their Grandparents, it’s about trying to restart what activities can be as the risk reduces.

RaaRaaaa · 22/05/2020 13:37

Exactly it’s about risk and a risk that you are happy or not happy to take. I am happy to take that risk and I respect those who do not. Grandparents are under 70 and healthy here. I also have a husband who is a scientist and involved with research. We as a family will therefore be seeing family in due course

unkindnessofravens · 22/05/2020 16:36

This^

fascinated · 22/05/2020 16:38

If my children were at school that’s exactly when I would STOP seeing grandparents! They’re low risk now, but if they were at school the risk would be multiplied many many times over....

fascinated · 22/05/2020 16:48

I’m happy about an end to group work and fewer kids in classrooms. It’s roasting in there with the low ceilings, large windows and overcrowding , and pandemonium from all the chatting. It’s horrible for more sensitive DCs.

Mightymurphy · 22/05/2020 17:41

redglitter agreed.

trumpisaflump · 23/05/2020 14:12

@upstar so do Scotland record care home deaths differently to the rest of the UK? I thought the care home deaths were included inin Scotland's total figures
