Nicola Sturgeon has stated she will outline a 4 phase plan to ease lockdown restrictions at the briefing today at 12.30.

Do we think a possible ease on meeting up with 1 other person. Really struggling with lockdown now but i 100% know why we're doing it. Any thoughts?

Since when has anything she’s said been clear.

The woman’s MO is bluff and bluster.

The80sweregreat · 21/05/2020 14:22

I didn't see it today but it goes to show how hard it's going to be to exit this pandemic.
I like Nicola and I wished she was an English leader of some kind but even she seems to be floundering a bit now. It's always the economy v lives and that is a tricky balance to achieve without upsetting people or stumbling into a heap of worries or problems. You need an economy to be working well to provide an nhs and public services. It's so hard.

Once schools go back in England ( even part time) then people will demand to see family ( the ones who have followed the rules to the letter ) or just do it anyway! Opening schools isn't going to be easy but it needs to happen to help so many other things.
I'm
Glad I'm not in charge! So many different points of views to take into account.

Aurea · 21/05/2020 14:30

Sorry if it's been asked before.......when are hairdressers opening? 😬

Everything is as clear as mud.

DivGirl · 21/05/2020 14:38

Hairdressers is phase 3 I think - whenever that is.

Babdoc · 21/05/2020 14:50

The PP who said the pandemic in Scotland is running 3 weeks behind England is wrong. Our curve exactly overlaps England but with a flatter peak. So there is no justification for Sturgeon to want a different time scale to England for ending the lockdown - except to play politics and sow division, as part of her ridiculous independence obsession.
I don’t hear any gratitude from the SNP for the massive bailout from the UK for Scottish businesses, either. Which, typically, they then made a mess of distributing.

Peppafrig · 21/05/2020 15:02

@Babdoc a bailout from the U.K government that we all pay taxes too. Nothing to be thankful for.

The80sweregreat · 21/05/2020 15:05

If Scotland had voted for independence in 2014 , I wonder if she would be so keen to do things differently now?
Money is a big driver for everything in life and they would have struggled on their own I think. The EU has its own problems and I doubt they would have ridden to their rescue : they might have done but it's doubtful ( even if they had stayed as members of it as she wanted to do )
Not being goady and it's all relative anyway, but it seems they will take money and still be provocative! ( I do like Nicola by the way!)
Not being independent at the moment may be a good thing for them , ironically!

CaptainMerica · 21/05/2020 15:07

I thought the detail in the photos posted earlier in the thread were pretty clear.

The big differences that stand out to me are

  • able to socially distance outdoors between two households, rather than people
  • still no driving outside the local area to exercise, until Stage 3.

It sounds like all year groups will go back, but part time, for the foreseeable future. It is good to see that schools are going to have staff back for a month to work out how they are going to implement the detail, and then let everyone know before the summer holidays.

Noworrieshere · 21/05/2020 15:14

advice to stay within a short distance of your community (5 miles)

So do I get arrested for going further? Or is it just advice?

Lunawuna · 21/05/2020 15:14

I'm looking forward to being able to see my parents in their garden.

It reads somewhat like phase 1 starts a week today, phase 2 at some point over late June/July with phase 3 (schools going back in some shape or form) from August. Phase 4 will happen when it happens?

It will be interesting to see whether transition for new p1s as part of phase 1 will mean p1 groups getting to visit their school buildings/meet the teachers.

Kinneddar · 21/05/2020 15:17

The meeting of households doesn't state just 1 person. I could take my daughter amd meet up with her friend and mum then whilst adhering to SD

Yes. It's much more sensible than the one person rule. I think specifically mentioning gardens are allowed too is a much better idea. Between than and travelling a distance not being allowed til phase 3 hopefully we wont replicate the scenes in England this week of everyone piling to parks and beaches

I'm not a NS fan at all but I think the plan looks pretty sensible. Certainly more cautious than the English one

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/05/2020 15:22

babdoc sorry, that was me, and I phrased it badly. I meant in terms of restrictions being lifted to come out of lockdown, that we've had an extra three weeks, not in terms of infection. Apologies for the confusion.

Ginntoniconpause · 21/05/2020 16:37

@sparkle17 I'm also a social worker. However, I'm off sick at the moment but plan to go back next week. Also pregnant so until mid June should be isolating where possible. Our nursery has had to close so I dont have childcare but my child has a place (3 years old) in August - if that goes ahead! I'm fretting about the lack of childcare and whether I'll still be working from home but hoping my employer will allow me to work from home whilst providing childcare until August- not sure what else I'll do!

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 21/05/2020 17:20

@unappreciativeoh weddings with limited attendees in phase 2, beyond close family in phase 3, mass gatherings & ceremonies taking place with necessary precautions in phase 4

Mummykins54 · 21/05/2020 17:30

Like the devolved governments of Wales and Northern Ireland she has given a phased approach which looks sensible and can be revisted at any point. Compare that with the nonsensical plan if you can call it that provided by Boris and his fellow buddies.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 21/05/2020 17:36

I’m interested to see how it is going to work for schools going back. We we definitely not going back until August which I expected but when they do go back the phases say that it will be a mix of in school and home learning, will key workers children Be able to go every day? How will that work? I work in frontline nhs and can’t work anymore flexibly then I already am, DH works away from home a lot in his job which is unlikely to change so what happens when it isn’t my children’s turn to be in that day/week? I’ll have one in first year, P1 and one in P3

Flamingofolie · 21/05/2020 18:02

Is there a comparable english document? I found this pretty clear, and at least she mentioned the shielding group.

maybe Scotland can stop taking the higher ground now

I mean, we are on higher ground when you think about it.

unappreciativeoh · 21/05/2020 18:28

We’re aiming for Phase 3 then I think @NatashaAlianovaRomanova thanks!

LoadsaBlusher · 21/05/2020 18:43

I’m concerned about the part time school thing too
How will it work with children in different primary years ?

My fear is they say P1-3 Monday Tuesday then p4-6 wed to Friday etc , how can we work that out as would need to be fully available for drop off pick up 5 days but still care for other kids when other siblings are in school etc

It only works if you have one child ...

More kids across various year groups is going to be a minefield

3DC here and dreading it

Cismyfatarse1 · 21/05/2020 21:08

It looks like schools can discuss family needs, including siblings. The easiest thing is to have half the school one week, then the other half and keep siblings in the same half.

poozel · 21/05/2020 21:12

@Flamingofolie I wondered this as well. I thought the document was clear and I see it's been shared a lot. I didn't see the same for England but it could be I've missed it. We are close to the border and I sent the shots to a friend in Newcastle today and she thought it was great and hadn't seen anything like that.

Allnamesaregone · 21/05/2020 22:05

I’m so over this. There were 50000 extra deaths the winter of 2017/18 alone and we did not hide away like scared things- it barely even made the news.
Our children are going to be affected for a long, long time both emotionally and in education. We need to start getting back to normal sooner than this!

sparkle17 · 21/05/2020 22:09

I just read the full government document. No mention about when grandparents could provide childcare. It doesn't mention it in any of the phases. How do you go about asking the government to clarify things?

okimdonenow · 21/05/2020 22:12

Expected more details from this exit strategy. At least Boris said when each stage will be likely to happen e.g dates, none of her phases had an expected time frame. Really losing the will now. Might as well not or watched it.

upstar · 21/05/2020 22:18

I'm surprised how much people on Mumsnet hate Nicola Sturgeon. Most people I know in real life in Scotland think she's doing a great job. The road map is pretty clear as an overall view and more details to come.
There is already a more detailed education document available on the website.
