DSS staying

Was wondering your thoughts on this.

My DH and I are shielding with our child (3). (Child has a terminal condition and has gov shielding letter)
We have not seen DSS (11) since lockdown, DH speaks to him every day on phone. DSS lives about 2 hours away.
DSS stepfather has a condition which puts him at risk too.

DH and I were thinking about letting DSS stay at our house for a few weeks.

Things to note.
DSS has other half siblings (maternal side) that move between households.
DSS has dropped into conversations about family visits to homewear stores, going inside other family members houses and someone coming to their house to buy stuff off his mother.

It was my suggestion that we ask if DSS could stay (I wasn't aware of the things I had mentioned in the "things to note" paragraph at the time)

I don't want to come across as the "wicked step mother" and I know the longer that DSS doesn't see his father the more I look like this in his and his mothers eyes.
The more I think about him coming the more anxious I am becoming. If my child got the virus they would almost certainly die. Even common colds would hospitalise them.

What are your thoughts?

Well either your child is shielding or not. That’s the most important factor here. If you intend to see shielding out, then no one comes to stay, surely? Yes, it might appear mean but the DSS will have to wait.

Can your DH not arrange to see DSS in a park/open space and see him? Kick a ball around? That might be ok.
