Could I have caught it?!

On the 9th May, a family friend left a present on our doorstep.
We are being cautious so we sprayed it all down before we brought it into the house.

She’s posted on social media today to say she’s isolating because her daughter is a carer and one of the residents at her care home tested positive.

She said her daughters test came back negative but to be safe she’s got to isolate.

I’m so worried we’ve touched stuff she touched. Is there a risk we could’ve caught it?

I think if you are being serious and you are genuinely concerned that you might have caught it in this way, then you may need to get a little help with your anxiety maybe?

I think you might have had symptoms in the 11 days since she dropped off the present?

If you "sprayed it down" and have had no symptoms since you're fine. None of you have left the house in the meantime or touched anything else potentially infected? Come on. There's panic and there's silliness.

A friend’s daughter’s patient tested positive and the friend dropped off something to your house 11 days ago that you thoroughly cleaned before bringing into your house. You don’t say that you washed your hands properly after touching it also don’t mention that you have any symptoms.
You are very unlikely to have caught it.
Rest easy.

I didn’t touch it at all. My husband did but he’s he washed his hands.

So your friends daughter doesn’t have corona virus? Why does she then need to isolate? And why on earth would you then think you might catch it seeing as neither your friend or her daughter actually even have cv? Even if they did, the chances of you catching anything from a parcel is vanishingly small, plus you cleaned it anyway.
You are definitely overthinking this. That sounds like a very hard way to live.

Yes I am being serious!!

Her daughter works in a care home.
Last week a resident tested positive.
Her daughter was tested herself and tested negative.

My friend said she has to isolate for two weeks to be sure?

I don’t know how the test works? She tested negative at the time but maybe she could still test positive if it takes 14 days to incubate?!

If you wiped down the parcel and hands were washed why on earth do you think you would have caught anything? Calm down and think rationally

On a side note what’s the point of testing people if they would then have to isolate anyway. I thought the whole point was that they could be reassured they do not have it (I am aware there will be a few false negatives) and get back to work.
So you’re saying that your friends daughter tested negative and yet still her household has to isolate for 14 days? That doesn’t sound right to me at all.

And again to answer your original question, the answer is no.

I’m not sure why she’s isolating then?

She just said she was into her second week of isolating. Someone asked if she was okay and her response was that her daughter had been caring for a resident at her care home who tested positive last week.
She then said her daughter had tested negative at the time of testing but she (my friend) was staying off of work until two weeks was over.

I’m just really anxious of catching it and very worried about the parcel now 😣

My husband said he washed it all down. But I’m staring to worry he didn’t do it properly.

I wash my hands so much they’re cracked and dry but I’m even starting to question if I’ve been washing them enough.

Sorry if I’ve offended anyone with my post.

I’m struggling with my mental health right now and I’m anxious!

I think you need help with your anxiety. Dont most infections start within 5 days? Parcels are low risk to start with, neither of them have symptoms or have tested positive so it's highly unlikely for anything to have been passed on

If her daughter has tested negative then I don't think there is any reason for get to have to isolate. If this were the case then any doctor or nurse would have to be inconstant isolation.

I know it's worrying and scary but the chances of you catching it from the parcel are very very slim Thanks

(You are at 11 days already. If they dont have it how can they pass it to you?)

The daughter could’ve had a false negative and perhaps a my friend is positive but doesn’t have symptoms.

I don’t know.

I’m just really worried 😞

Why are you posting if you're not taking on board what anyone is saying? You wont have caught the virus from that parcel

I'm really really careful as my 5 year old is shielded but I wouldn't be worried in your situation.
The girl tested negative, the parcel was cleaned, hands were washed and it's been 11 days.

OP take a deep breath.

You are very very unlikely to have caught anything from the parcel. Everyone who has handled it does not have Covid.

Please try and reduce your anxiety. Do you think you could speak to a GP about your handwashing and overwhelming anxiety?

It's natural and understandable to feel how you are feeling during this time, but please try and take comfort everyone who touched the parcel does not have Covid.

DS works in a large care home and friend/colleague tested positive. In total; 17 residents/20 care staff.
tested positive.The staff that tested positive have then gone into isolation at home. The staff that didn't are still working there but the measures have been esculated so its basically 2:1 care over 24hrs. The same 2 carers over 24hrs are assigned to the same resident. All residents are contained in their own rooms if a positive test result to prevent cross contamination. I'm unsure why any staff would 'get sent home', unless testing positive? As there would be no staff left there? 😳

My partner tested positive and a week before he drove me and my son to the hospital. We would have had to get 2 buses and he had no symptoms (never did develop any) so sat in back of his car, as we would have had to a taxi. We never got it.
