Just heard headline on Radio 4 .

Daily Mail seem to be only News agency reporting .

Ooh, interesting. Awaiting further news.

Peggysgettingcrazy · 20/05/2020 18:08

I am watching the news now and they are talking about June 1st, to return.

If this is correct, then its breaking news. Which is why only some are reporting it at the moment.

PicsInRed · 20/05/2020 18:11

Presumably aiming for Sept 1 ... maybe but maybe Jan 1... maybe?

How many are excited for another 3 to 7 to? months of this?

Florencemattell · 20/05/2020 18:12

Reoorted today- No new cases of coronavirus in London or East of England.
Year 10 and 12 need to be back in school asp.
Teachers needs to consider that alot of us have been working all through this pandemic. This age of children can social distance, if they dont send them home.
Handwashing, classes outside if appropriate subject, windows open, back back to school please !

PicsInRed · 20/05/2020 18:13

Cambridge Uni won't even be back "in person" until next academic year. So some will want us to wait at least a full year.

peridito · 20/05/2020 18:14

Think I'm overstating - all I can find is

Justice Minister Robert Buckland admitted this morning that the June 1 reopening date may now not be 'uniform' across England - as the Prime Minister's pledge descended into chaos amid mass dissension from school staff, unions and local councils.

I'm confused? Why would return on June 1st be breaking news / backing down?

At the moment, everyone is working to June 1st EXCEPT in those councils that have said they won't, and there will be a final call on may 28th dependent on numbers and the 5 tests?

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 20/05/2020 18:16

I read that Cambridge uni wont be back until Jan 2021. I'm now shitting it that all unis will follow suit and I'll be facing another semester of online learning. I think it'll break me!

CarrieBlue · 20/05/2020 18:17

@Florencemattell parents need to consider that teachers have been working all through this pandemic too.

Op is sayi g the news reported they have decided to back down on the return for primary on June 1st.

As in they are saying it won't be happening/ have decided its not the right thing to do.

It's worse than that, I'm afraid. Summer 2021. They aren't returning for over a year.

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 20/05/2020 18:26

I think it will be like the wrk advice "Send your child to school if you can. If you can't send your child then keep homeschooling"

If this is going to be new policy we need clarification on whether parents are going to be punished for choosing not to send kids back. I've heard them say no fines but is that law?

Lumene · 20/05/2020 18:26

This is not true, they have always said they are aiming for June 1 depending on the data and it’s still looking likely.

PicsInRed · 20/05/2020 18:28

If this goes until 2021/2 then we are going to need a decent domestic purposes benefit otherwise single parent (and also many dual earning) families will lose their jobs, then lose their homes, and then be plunged - with their children - into poverty.

I guess here come the morgagee sales. Hmm

FergusSingsTheBlues · 20/05/2020 18:30

I can’t find this anywhere and am watching news now?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/05/2020 18:30

It's very premature to assume schools will be back full time from 1st June. Schools in my local authority are planning for three days per week, for only part of the day. From what I've heard certainly about one local school they simply won't be able to accommodate anymore year groups. Just accommodating reception, year 1 and year 6 plus key worker children will use 2/3 of their classrooms.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 20/05/2020 18:31

Sorry, my maths was wrong. It's 3/4 of their classrooms.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/05/2020 18:31

@PicsInRed this is the situation I'm in. My job is not possible to do from home so until school is open I can't work. I was banking on June. I can't possibly stay off work until 2021!

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 20/05/2020 18:32

The government were always going to have to back down on the "no rota" rule if everybody was going to be back by September. They can't have it both ways unless they can magic up new buildings and teachers to cope with 15 kids to a class Wink

HeIenaDove · 20/05/2020 18:38

My niece works as an escort on school transport and has been told she is expected back on June 1st and has said social distancing on the vehicle is impossible.
She lives with my 84 year old parents.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 20/05/2020 18:39

This is just the newspapers making stuff up.

The government has always said that there might be a return to school for children in certain years, from June 1st at the earliest but only if it safe to do so. This is still what they are saying. It’s just that loads of people didn’t listen and decided that meant schools would definitely open on June 1st.

cyclingmad · 20/05/2020 18:41

If I was a uni student I'd be deferring my year if my uni was not going back until next yr. How they can justify the fees is shocking

NoMoreTwistNoMoreTwist · 20/05/2020 18:43

Sensible decision, they should never of even planned to open just yet.
