Funeral

A very well liked member of a large organisation I belong to died recently, from a long illness, not CV related.

Obviously numbers at the funeral are limited but there's talk of members lining the route, 2m apart. Probably 100 people.

I absolutely want to be part of this if it's appropriate but I don't want there to be any unecessary upset or drama and am concerned it might be considered a "mass gathering".

The widow is aware an pleased with the plan, I'm more concerned about "other" people cauing a fuss, the route will be past housing etc and possibly the authorities being forced/asked to get involved.

Is there a way to make sure this goes smoothly or is it even acceptable?

It is absolutely fine. This has become part of the 'new normal' and is something that I have seen happen a few times. So long as the widow and funeral director are aware of it and happy with it then the funeral director will make sure that the route is suitable for this and make any liaison with, for example, police that they feel is necessary for traffic control. No other authorities will be involved unless people do anything stupid like try and go to the cemetery as well.
