Quarantine after Holiday

Do we really think that this will end up being implemented? It will completely trash the overseas holiday industry and having been on a few UK holidays over the years I refuse to pay inflated prices when the weather is so variable and the standard is not great. I looked up a few short breaks earlier and we would need 2 rooms.

This hotel would cost us nearly £1.7k B&B for 3 nights and it could be rainy/windy or both! It doesnt of course include travel to get there.

Yes.

Because right now the only verseas holiday has ground to a halt. And thus makes it explicit that travel will be subject to infection control measures, including quarantine (what island nations such as NZ are relying on) because they are extremely important.

Travel is not banned outright, so if you have urgent family, business or compassionate need then you can go.

This isn't a measure about restarting international leisure travel. Quite the opposite, really

I dont have any urgent need. Just would love to be sitting in a cafe on the Amalfi Coast sipping a coffee and having an ice cream. Am I being unreasonable to say that the hotel in Newquay is overpriced and if it rains and the weather isnt good then a complete waste of money?

Other hotels are similar tbh in the UK price wise. My children are grown up so dont need to stick with school holidays but would love to have something to look forward to.

We are going to Finland in July. We will quarantine two weeks if needed. Dh can work from home that time.

Your link didn't work for me so I can't judge that particular hotel, ut I think it depends what you want from a holiday. I would say in my life about 80 or 90 per cent of my holidays have been in the UK and I don't remember any where it rained steadily all week or (when they were summer holidays) where we couldn't have a single day on the beach. Of course, however, there were usually some days where the weather wasn't great, but I like going to castles, on walks (where it's actually better if the sun isn't beating down), sightseeing, museums etc so it doesn't really matter to me. If your one desire from a holiday is hot weather (and that's fine of course!) then obviously a UK holiday will seem overpriced to you.

I can quarantine and wfh for 2 weeks after i get back from a holiday, if that's what it takes to go away i'll do it.
Not sure how this will be policed though. I agree with you re UK holidays, they can be very over priced

Lewinnick Lodge in Newquay. I havent just picked on this one. They all seem to be this sort of price. I could of course stay in a much cheaper place i.e Premier Inn or Travelodge but its the value for money I am struggling with.

The price I quoted was for 3 nights B&B. If I went for 7 nights (and I do understand what you are saying CAKE) I would be bankrupt!

For me its the cultural difference when I holiday abroad and the weather. I would honestly rather just not go at all and save money for something better.

Time - where would you like to go? I am thinking somewhere not too difficult to get to. Flight, car hire and self catered apartment perhaps. Went to Capri last year for a week. Wonderful although it was a little tricky to get to, drive to airport, flight, taxi to Naples port, boat to Capri, met by a porter, walk up the hill and we were there!

Would like the Amalfi Coast again, anywhere Italian because we love the food and glamour

I have a trip booked in August. Parents in swizerland. Haven't seen them in a long while because of corona. I will WFH if needed afters. if a plane goes, I go. Desperate to see them (elderly and frail). the quarantine won't stop me.

If you aren't able to wfh on return would this mean that you would have to take enough annual leave for a two week quarantine afterwards?

Not many families would be able to go if they are restricted to school holidays then?

skykark, yes, you'd have to take enough annual leave to cover the 14 day quarantine after your holiday.
And maybe in some countries you'd have to quarantine on arrival at your holiday destination?

I don't plan to go on holiday this year..Waiting for my refund from TUI so won;t be in a position to rebook soon.. I am self employed as a CM so can't afford to take another 2 weeks at home.. so its not an option to go abroad right now

You definitely have to quarantine on return.

FYI: Scientists don't know if a person has immunity once infected or if they can be re-infected again.

Don't book Norway! CNN is reporting that unless you have a business reason for going, you'll be sent back!

Presumably other countries will have quarantine too so you'd be stuck when you got there as well.

I know for certain that people are testing positive again way more than 14 days after their first positive result.
I don’t have confidence that having had it once can guarantee future immunity and this makes me worried about the likelihood of an effective vaccine being developed.
If we had to quarantine on arrival in a country and again in return we wouldn’t go.
Prices in the uk can be ridiculous op, you’re right so I‘m resigned to UK camping with last minute booking for a few years...

Bet there are loads of exceptions. Our problem will be if anyone will let us in!
I'd be off like a shot, laptop in bag, working at the side of a pool in Italy or Greece. Two week further work from home on return is no big deal - if it ever comes to it.
This working from home has its upsides!
