Have there been any clusters associated with schools?

As above really or do they not share this? I have seen the number of teachers that have died being quested several times on various threads but are any of them linked that we know of ? This really isn’t a teacher bashing opportunity, I’m prepared to send my child in as I think the risk to her is so very low looking at the statistics. I do however feel for the teachers and if the environment isn’t safe for them we could manage.

I would have thought by the time we locked down if the illness spread rampantly through schools we would have some evidence to show this?

A few already - and that's with only 2% in. As the numbers of keyworker and vulnerable students have increased so have cases. We began with only 10 kids in. Now we have 40 and local cases.

We can only expect things to rise. In the East of England there are spkies around Peterborough schools and Huntingdon achools that have been reported but I expect many more that haven't been.

There was one in Carlisle before schools closed.

The Epidemiological summaries are for set time periods, so local reports like the cases in Bristol won't appear yet on the summary, they will appear on the next one. 4-10th May was summarised on 13th May. So 11th-17th May should be available on 20th May.

Were the teachers infected by a student or are the infections believed to have happened outside of the school?

Nobody will know until children are routinely tested, will they? Which isn't on the cards in the DFE guidance. (Nor is temperature taking, PPE, social distancing, small enough class sizes - the list goes on. ) Although given that teachers are face to face in close contact with the children, and we know now that children carry the equivalent viral load as adults, i'd say school.

Thank you - I’ll keep an eye on those summaries. I feel it’s quite low numbers really considering the children most likely to be infectious are the ones in school? I’m so torn I don’t want anybody put at risk but I feel like it’s not going anywhere and we all have to get used to living with the risk of the virus the way we do with other viruses but it’s such an emotive issue, I’ve been working and doing all of our shopping so I’m maybe a bit more accepting of the risk.

One of New Zealand’s biggest clusters was a secondary school in Auckland

Not a school, but a friend in Japan said that there was an outbreak at a nursery school. A teacher infected 3 other teachers and about 6 kids. One kid passed it on to 2 family members.

It’s really really small numbers of pupils in school though...

It’s about 1% of pupils in locally.

It stands to reason that there will be, that's why we are working in bubbles do that just that one bubble will have to isolate rather than a whole school. The schools are the "taps" and we should expect to see infection rise. All countries opening schools have seen a rise - proportional to the number of daily cases they were seeing before re opening, of course.

The reason for concern over opening schools is that as our numbers of infection remain high the numbers of new infections in schools could be correspondingly high, too. We don't currently know

With only 1 teacher per bubble make it less likely to get an outbreak identified. As kids might not get symptoms.
How quickly will bubble members be told to isolate when someone has a fever.
Ie if teacher is ill contacts HT.they need to contact families immediately.
Or are they waiting till it's confirmed which is too late.
Either way asymptomatic for at least 2 days.

The guidance is very unclear, also. The symptomatic person goes home for 7 days, but then the guidance jumps to actions based on whether that person tests positive or negative. Well, in the meantime, there are 15 other people in the bubble who could have it and pass it along to their families. What happens to them? At the moment, guidance says they go home for 14 days if the symptomatic person tests positive. So until then, they'll still be attending school?

What happens if the symptomatic person is the teacher (as is probably the most likely scenario)? Does a new teacher have to go into the potentially infected bubble?

There have been 3 cases in Lancashire schools in the last two weeks.
One in Burnley , one in Padiham and one in Morecambe.
All three were members of staff testing positive with symptoms who had been working in the school in the last week.
