Anyone noticing more angry people around than usual?

I was just coming home from the shop and it’s a really steep hill up to my house, I was walking up and carrying loads of bags. The street is quite narrow and I was pushing dd up in her pram. I noticed a couple come out of a house and they both stood in the road in between the cars so I automatically assumed they were waiting to cross as cars were passing, anyway as I passed them they walked back onto the pavement and started shouting “you're welcome!!” At me and calling me ignorant, of course I said back that I thought they were waiting to cross but that wasn’t good enough and they continued hurling abuse as I walked up the hill! I know people are stressed but wow.

I had exactly the same the other day and my smile at them wasn’t enough, the woman made a comment. It took me a while to realise what she was making a comment about and J totally hadn’t realised they were crossing for us and it really annoyed me as I am the most polite person ever and had even smiled at her.
It has really brought out the best and worst in people. Don’t give it another thought.

I’m just kicking myself for not saying anything more back because they were really shouting at me but honestly I could barely catch my breath.

I admit that I was pissed off with some people today on a dog walk. We were walking along a wide path and came up to two groups of people (a group of five and a couple) talking. They were standing on the outer edges of the path which gave them a 2m space between each group, they saw us coming and rather than move to one side and still stand 2m apart they didn’t move an inch.
We stood there for a moment waiting for the penny to drop but it didn’t. We then asked if they’d mind moving a bit so we could safely pass and the couple moved no more than a footstep so we had to struggle through some bushes at the side of the path and they got a “fucks sake” off me.

I think they probably had deliberately moved out of your way to give you the 2m and were annoyed that you hadn't acknowledged that but of course you had assumed they were actually crossing.

There's a tight bit between houses near me that twice Iv waited so someone else could come through it before I went and while I didn't say anything the first time the bloke didn't so much as behave as if I was in existence whereas the 2nd woman who was pushing a pram said a quick thankyou with a smile. The difference was noticeable though even though both are small in the scheme of things.

I crossed the road to avoid a family of four the other day- the fuckers only crossed as well, practically following me! People are dim. I honestly regret going out for my permitted exercise some days.

I’ve noticed a lot more frayed tempers around and have seen/ heard people shouting in shops, parks and when I’ve walked past flats with balconies and the windows are open because of the nice weather. I think a lot of people are struggling and the things they use to regulate their emotions, especially stuff like going to the gym and holidays etc have been denied to them. I know it’s upsetting when people are nasty like this but try to let it go. It really is their problem and not yours. You didn’t do anything wrong and explained the misunderstanding. You have to feel sorry for people who are so emotionally unintelligent that they shout at people on the street who are managing bags and a baby. Most people are pretty decent - and not like this.

Well even if the person hasn’t thank you it isn’t nice to shout at people. They scared my 6 year old. I’m not sure why they stepped out in the road for me to pass they were the only people who did that and I passed plenty of people so I’m going to assume they were crossing. I try to avoid people if it’s possible but I’m not going to step out into the road every time I pass someone.

Ah I'm sorry you were shouted at OP, that doesn't sound nice at all. I haven't really noticed it here (apart from parents having blazing rows with their kids, but that's nothing new) but been avoiding the most stressful places like big supermarkets.

Not in my area but on MN yes!

Sounds nasty OP. There are some unstable people about at the best of times, and this has pushed a few over the edge.
