European schools - how's it going?

If you're in Europe and your DCs have gone back to school, how are you feeling about it all?

Which country are you in and what have your schools done to get kids back in. How much teaching time are they actually getting, because they must be spending a lot of time being organised into queues. If you're a teacher, are the kids social distancing properly?

DS is year 10, so the most important year to get back in UK imo. His school has put out a questionnaire to see if we are intending to send our kids in. I'd be interested to know how it is European schools can handle it but UK doesn't feel it can be done safely.

In Guernsey - so not europe - but a neighbour of yours! We did a very strict lockdown - no takeaways etc on the same day as the U.K. then followed a program of obsessive testing and contract tracing. Stalked the virus and got loads of cases. In some case, with contact tracing they got positive results before the victim Even had a symptom and could isolate that person. it worked and as of today we haven’t had a single new case in 15 days. Active cases on island are down to 6 so should hit zero soon.

Primary schools are all opening June 8th with classes split in half - 2 days a week each and one day for cleaning. That’s everyone from pre-school to Y6 inclusive.

Senior schools remain closed. May seem an over reaction when we have so few cases but they’re aiming for total elimination. Our borders with the wider world will be closed for the foreseeable future but in 1-2 months time we should be able to operate fully again on island. Senior schools should be back and running full time in September or may be phased in in July if we carry on with such good results.

Population 60,000 people.

Should add, no social distancing expected in schools here in guernsey. Just classroom bubbles that don’t mix with other classes.
