Click and collect whilst self isolating

I've never done click and collect before but my local Sainsbury's has just started doing it. I normally get a delivery (vulnerable) but I was wondering about swapping to click and collect to free up delivery for people who haven't got transport. But my concern is would I be able to still get it if we were have to self isolate due to either being in contact with someone who has tested positive or us having symptoms.
Just wanting other people's thoughts/experiences.

Depends on the set up of the store I suppose.

I know one store where you go to a separate area, they wheel a stack of crates to your boot and leave them and you get out and load your shopping then drive away. No human contact.

Another store you have to go and collect it from the main customer service area. Is there a way of confirming the procedure in the store you want to use? If you phone the customer service number they could contact the store, ask their set up then phone you back to confirm.

How far ahead are you ordering? It sounds like you aremt self isolating now, is there a reason you think you might start having to in the time before you go to get the shopping?

If you're self isolating you shouldn't be leaving the house at all so you can't use click and collect

I think OP means she’s choosing to isolate as vulnerable, not for showing symptoms.

Our local Morrison’s is doing click and collect in the car park, so no contact with another person. Worth checking what Sainsbury’s are offering at your local store.

Ignore - didn’t get to the bottom of the post! Do you have anyone local who can do top ups if you have to self isolate for symptoms?

We’ve been wondering the same as we’re using click and collect so PIL can use our delivery slot. But concerned if we need to self isolate for any reason going forward. Our best option I think would be to get a friend to collect on our behalf - our experience so far with Sainsbury’s click and collect has been really positive and it’s been no hassle at all.

I've been getting click and collect from various supermarkets and they've all been done from a van in the carpark, social distancing very good. Tesco near me was the best, don't even get out the car, pop the boot open they put it in and you drive off.

Not self isolating at the moment (we are having to do stringent social distancing) but just wondering how it would work if we were - thinking ahead that's all.

If you were to self isolate because you had symptoms then you absolutely should not be leaving your house.

No, if you have symptoms then click and collect is not suitable. Stick to your deliveries.

My local Tesco has extended their groceries click and collect so that they have marked out about 20 spaces / 10 double spaces to keep people separate. They then ask your name, wheel out your crates and then you load up / drive off. No contact.

I've been to 3 different Sainsburys stores for click & collect and the staff have all been really good at maintaining social distancing. They usually have a van or two parked in a corner of the car park and spaces coned off for you. They'll come to your passenger window to ask your surname. If you don't want to wind the window down then write it on a piece of paper to hold up to them. They'll then bring the crates of shopping over to the back of your car and move back to their van while you load it in the boot. Leave them the crates to pick up and drive off. One lady actually opened my boot and put the shopping in so i didn't even get out of the car. I usually take hand gel to do my hands with after i've loaded the bags into the car.

One of the supermarkets (and I'm leaning towards it being Sainsbury's because of deliveries not being available for most people) specifically stated that click and collect was suitable for people self-isolating. My only experience is with Tesco, where they load your boot for you. I think calling whatever store you intend to use and asking if it's suitable is a good suggestion :)

As for those saying you absolutely shouldn't be leaving your house if you're self-isolating, the guidance has always said you can still go out for your daily exercise 🤷‍♀️

I don’t know of any Sainsbury’s locally to us that don’t have the collection in the car park. There is a designated area that you drive you, park and wait in the car until the person working is ready. Then you (from a distance) give your name and order number, and then bring over crates with your food in that they leave beside the boot of your car. You then get out of the car, open your boot and transfer it. That’s it.

As long as the collection point is in the car park, then I think the risks are the same as a delivery with the exception of the possibility of your car breaking down and needing to refuel due to the journeys.

tesco is amazing for click and collect - there is literally no contact.
you drive into a space and they load it all up while you wait in the car.

if you have symptoms you cant leave your house but if you are isolating as you are vulnerable then its allowed and up to you if you want to go out.

We have access to Sainsbury’s priority for delivery and c&c, and I can see slots for both. It is much, much harder to find c&c slots!

I’d stick with delivery if you’re vulnerable.
