Im stuffed because they're basing it on 2018/19 tax year. However everything fell apart for me late that year - husband left me and I lost an important contract within months of each other. My income has dropped massively since then but because I was ok then, it's tough shit now Sad Seems harsh that the system is so inflexible.

Did you not have any income at all that year ? I’m getting buttons but it’s better than nothing and I’m investing what they give me in something that will generate income for me

undercoveraessedai · 13/05/2020 11:28

It's done on profit not income as far as I understand - which leaves me ineligible too as I cover my outgoings but don't actually make any profit! Plus had day job part time for some of the tax years they're including.

I don't really understand why they seem to be entirely ignorant of how small businesses run...

MoaningMinniee · 13/05/2020 11:30

Have you actually applied? I did mine this morning, as I expected it isn't great as they average it over the past three years and two of those were impacted by health issues for me. I did see though there was an appeal system available.

PickledLilly · 13/05/2020 11:33

I’m in the same boat, it was a new business in the last tax year so I didn’t make any money. This year the business had picked up but it’s part time alongside another part time employed job. The business brought in about 40% of my income. Overnight that just disappeared but I can’t get any help.

Concerned7777 · 13/05/2020 11:34

@MoaningMinniee do they tell you how much you will be getting when you do the application? Also do they tell you how long it takes to come through?
My DH has his application slot on friday

FOF44 · 13/05/2020 11:34

I can't apply MM, I did the eligibility checker and it sent me packing.

Chrissie I have child maintenance and tax credits for income so do have something coming in.

It excludes newer businesses and discriminates against women who have had babies in the past 3 years or so.

ChrissieKeller61 · 13/05/2020 11:39

I’m praying ex doesn’t loose his job too, although given what he does I’m not holding my breathe.

MoaningMinniee · 13/05/2020 11:45

@Concerned7777 yes it tells you the amount you will receive.

SpringBlossomIsBeautiful · 13/05/2020 11:50

I’ve been self employed since last April & would have qualified for about £5k but can claim £23.44 UC.
Pissed off & angry doesn’t even come close to how I’m feeling

thelastteacake · 13/05/2020 11:55

Query it. Lots of people have had it change after doing this.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/05/2020 11:57

Try it more than once. There have been some glitches.

Brieandcheddar · 13/05/2020 12:05

Have a look at the bouce back loan and try to apply.
I beleive a self employed oerson can apply for it and you would get 25% of your last years turnover.
