Thank goodness.

I am angry at the government very angry with them. Furlough was far too generous.

But those furloughed need now take it upon themselves to be exceptionally responsible citizens.

But we all know the majority will not.

esjee · 12/05/2020 17:40

"So if every furloughed worker can't wait to go back to work, they are all so miserable, every single one of the ready to go back tomorrow, why such the uproar on lifting the lockdown and being told to go back to work if you can in a covid complaint workplace because the R rate is below 1"

These are the workplaces that decided to close when they didn't have to. The people legitimately furloughed due to risk of redundancy aren't complaining because we can't go back anyway. There's still no work and/or its not permitted!

esjee · 12/05/2020 17:41

@SeperatedSwans how do we know that the vast majority of furloughed are not responsible citizens? Because many are in low wage industries? You're an obnoxious person.

what you should be doing is staying indoors for essential trips only en mass.

Why on earth should we be doing that? Hmm

There is no restriction on sitting in gardens, and people can go outside for exercise as well. And actually, in England, there has never been any legal restriction on the number of times you go out for said exercise either. In essence, what you're really saying is "we have to sit inside and work so you should be stuck indoors too".

You're just painfully resentful of anyone not working at the moment and it's blatantly obvious from all your posts. I get it - it's not nice to be working when other people are off, but it's not their fault they're furloughed. There's nothing wrong with people enjoying the weather while they're stuck at home for weeks on end!

foggybits · 12/05/2020 17:43

Furlough was far too generous.

What should it have been? The one person I know furloughed has been a higher rate tax payer for at least a decade. Why are they less entitled to help?

BamboozledandBefuddled · 12/05/2020 17:44

ODFOD. You've clearly run out of spite and venom, and now you're running on sheer stupidity. Have you thought about pulling yourself together?

foggybits · 12/05/2020 17:46

But that isn't what the majority of furloughed are doing, especially now in England with increased freedom and a longer break from work. They will be out sunbathing, the majority will now be driving to rural places to excersise and have picnics and days out with family playing sports in parks every single sunny day.

How on earth do you know a) what all furloughed people will be doing & b) that people doing these things are furloughed?

SeperatedSwans · 12/05/2020 17:47

The majority of low income workers are in work! Shop workers on NMW, factory workers, construction, lower band NHS staff and higher band, social workers, care workers, community workers, logistic and distribution staff. It's all the low income workers slogging it out. Most call centers are WFH right now. 😂

The working class are still working! The ones juggling everything, the ones keeping the economy going. It's that middle class band in middle managment and white collar working not.

foggybits · 12/05/2020 17:49

@SeperatedSwans maybe take a breath & a step back?

vanillandhoney · 12/05/2020 17:50

They will be out sunbathing, the majority will now be driving to rural places to excersise and have picnics and days out with family playing sports in parks every single sunny day

Yeah, how dare they. They should be shut in a darkened room and living on bread and gruel until all this is over Grin

esjee · 12/05/2020 17:50

Its really great that when it starts spreading again (as it definitely will due to govt still not having control of the situation), some small minded cunts are going to blame that on the furloughed as well as the economy being fucked. Apparently now we're scapegoats for the whole mess of the pandemic. Some of you really need to look at yourselves. You're spewing absolute poison and are absolute pieces of shit. That's me done on this thread and maybe this site too. Self righteous bastards.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 12/05/2020 17:50

Off a cliff edge, preferably.

MrsG010814 · 12/05/2020 17:51

@SeperatedSwans I do hope you are behaving like an exceptionally responsible citizen during the time your not at work but then your probably working a million hours a week to pick up the slack from all of us greedy, lazy furloughers. I will bare you a thought when I next enjoy a GnT in the garden ✌️

ginsparkles · 12/05/2020 17:51

Does it actual matter if it's working class or middle class people who are furloughed? They are people who wouldn't be able to pay rent/mortgages and food and utilities if it weren't for furlough. They are people who through no fault of their own can't work. Why should we help them? They have paid into the system all the years, and hopefully will be able to again when they are allowed back to work.

SudokuBook · 12/05/2020 17:53

First of all do you not think the government must have considered that the costs of the scheme would be less than the costs of the economy totally bombing? They aren’t doing this to give people a jolly.

What do you mean by being an “exceptionally responsible citizen” and what proof do you have that people are not being so?

ScarfLadysBag · 12/05/2020 17:54

@SeperatedSwans You're struggling and you're bitter, and it's understandable. But you're directing your ire at the wrong people and getting yourself into a state. This is not a situation anyone foresaw or expected and there's no magic answer that will allow everyone to continue life merrily as they were. There are always winners and losers in every situation because that's just how life and our society works. You might be the loser right now; you might not be in six months' time.

SudokuBook · 12/05/2020 17:54

It's that middle class band in middle managment and white collar working not.

Yeah bowling alleys, cafes, pubs, hair salons are awash with white collar middle managers

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 12/05/2020 17:56

A dear friend works for a DIY place that rhymes with foamface
The top heirarchy still on furlough despite the store being open 7 days a week, one of the rare 'essentialish' places actually allowed to open and get profits.
Not only are the top earners getting government cash £2500 a month, the poor loves are also getting their usual wage topped up by company so still getting 80 % ( wages so high £2500 dont reach it)
The under a tenner staff back now, had to really as many suffering financially.
The top brass not offered to be re deployed to give hand despite short staffed due to illness/ childcare or sheilding.
My point- if you are able to run a 7 day a week business and your top brass insist on stopping at home, dont use government money furlough. Pay these people out of your 7 day a week profits.
This money should be used for small businesses that cant operate.

vera99 · 12/05/2020 18:00

Separatedswans makes me hope that any furloughed workers here can enjoy your enforced 'holiday' whilst you can and raise a small cheer and have an extra G&T celebrating her pointless impotent fury at your impertinence. Let her reveal what exemplary behaviours she is doing in this national emergency.

Powergower · 12/05/2020 18:02

Exactly. The money should go to those businesses who are unlikely to survive. Big business should manage itself, with its savings. Just like families are doing now, dipping into savings if necessary. I do find it crazy that the furloughed on this thread are asking for compassion, sympathy and empathy whilst not acknowledging how hard the full time workers have it. Many of these full time workers will work all the way through and STILL face redundancy alongside the furloughed in a few months.

Surely the furloughed can see why those working full time with immense workloads and pressures are feeling worried. It's an awful time for all, but those working full time really do have it the hardest right now.

DreamChaser23 · 12/05/2020 18:03

Will we ever see 100 percent wages again? Because from what I understand from August the government will expect employers to pay percentage for employees if they are back working. The likelihood is that most workers who do return will be part time. So companies could pay 40 percent and the government 40 percent. The fact that employers don't have to top up wages to employees wages to 100 percent means that some employers who can aren't choosing to do so. Most people I knew they are getting the 80 percent only a few I know whose employers have topped up to normal 100 percent.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 12/05/2020 18:12

Probably a whole lot of part time workers going forward with a very stagnant economy.
That said tax and NI still being paid but will be hugely reduced if part time.
People scrabbling for jobs, but with so many people going for a tiny amount of jobs wages will stay very low.
Give it a year, landlords fed up with rents getting not paid or people moving in with relatives out of nessicity, will sell properties quick to enjoy the profit or indeed live on it theirselves.
House prices likely to plummet as mortgages are hard to get due to jobs being so fragmented.
If people staying in UK more money here not spent on holidays or travel.
As I said up thread though furlough is £8 billion a month so until October £48 billion. It really is a drop in the ocean compared to th £500 Billion in 2008 bank bail out.

Nanalisa60 · 12/05/2020 18:13

Yet again I will say it!! a lot of really horrible VILE people on this thread I’m not going to name and shame, I think we all know who they are!!

As I have already said SHAME ON YOU!!
